Black History Month/Breast Cancer Precention Month etc#1

It's February and the television is filled with little reminders that this is Black History Month. A short while ago we had Breast Cancer Prevention Month and everything seemed to turn pink.

Now I have nothing against these months or any others that shed the light on various causes. Not at all.

However, I wonder why Gay Pride Month doesn't get the same support and coverage as others.

You are right, Dolly... I don't even KNOW what month Gay Pride month is. We miss a period of school every February for a "Black History Month" assembly, but we've never had a Gay Pride assembly... and I'm pretty sure there are more gay students than black students in my school.

Gay Pride is a month? Since when? I thought it was just a week.

I'm pretty sure there are more gay students than black students in my school.

There are more black Americans than gay Americans.

Well, the qualifier is 'in my school,' not 'in America.' We have a pretty small number of black students in my school. But yeah, I know what you mean-- that in the greater scheme, black history is much more important in America. I just think they should celebrate the gay community as well as the black community in my school, because it's in high school where kids struggle so much with sexuality.

would have some choice words as to why there is not a Gay pride month

There are more black Americans than there are senior citizens, but no one tries to opress the elderly en masse.

I can't speak for orangeskittles, but I don't think she was implying anything other than just making a comment about what Schmerg said. But yeah, Gay Pride is the whole month of a June, not just a week.

And if we didn't allow ourselves to capitulate the whims of the lunatic Jesus fringe, none of this would really be an issue.
