Black smoke -- what the.... (Lost)

***************SPOILERS FOR WEST COAST VIEWERS************

All right, what the **** was in that black smoke on Lost? There was a REALLY quick flash of something while the camera panned through the smoke -- anyone tape it and can tell us what that was???

That hour was how all TV shows should be -- exciting, tense, funny, entertaining. I don't CARE that the show isn't giving us answers - any show that can get a reaction out of me like it did with that smoke -- thing -- is worth watching no matter what.

I do think it's kind of funny that the TV guide blurbs for this episode included "Sawyer gets a haircut."

Black fog Schmog...I know I was on the edge of my seat during the haircut scene...

Perhaps it was the ghost of the polar bear who apparently inhabited the island for awhile, but then disappeared without explanation...

I thought it looked like faces- the old guy that he shot in the first scene, his brother, etc.

Did anyone else catch that it also looked like something was spelled out in the grass too during this scene? There was this one part where there was something different about the grass.... sometimes I can't decide if I'm seeing stuff that's not there, or if they're putting hidden things in there playing to the tiVo generation.

I thought perhaps in the smoke/fog was some sort of "electromagnetic force" kind of following on the whole training film, where Dr. Candle mentioned that the location has a high level of electromagnetic something or other (as proven in the hatch, when they walk by that thick wall, and Jack's necklace gets pulled by the magnet). Electromagnetic energy - ghosts? Who knows!

I will have to rewatch on the Tivo to see these faces and words!

I thought Mr. Eko's backstory was very interesting...

Did anyone else think that the sound effects with it sounded like an engine? I'm going with the "electromagnetic force" theory for now. That could also explain the mini explosions. More than the smoke, though, I was creeped out by the image of Charlie, alone in the jungle, adding to his stash of Virgin Mary statues.

Wasn't there some mention of remote viewing being tested on the island? Maybe someone is controlling the smoke and can see through it and into other people's minds?

You know, i always enjoy the show for what it is. And then I go to fansites and message boards and realize that what I saw was like half the show. It's crazy what they cram in there.

Hm I think the polar bear was one of those 'freaky things that happen' when Michael's kid was around.

Hah wow. I've never really been to Lost fansites for fear of spoilers...though I guess I should check them out. I know I miss a lot with just watching the show.

When the smoke thing fisrt went across the screen I know I jumped a bit. Totally wasn't expecting that.

I feel like I'm not intelligent enough to watch this show on my own - I need millons of other people pointing out things I miss. I *thought* I saw faces in teh smoke but couldn't make anything out. Thank goodness for Tivo owners!
