It looks like there will be yet ANOTHER edition of a DVD of this film, with a theater tie in. I just don't get it - why mess with it?

Are you serious? It is needed as much as another star wars release of the trilogy. However, I will defend that there were multiple versions of the film: directors cut, version shown on television, I'm sure others....

None of these movies will ever touch the book 'Blade Runner' is based on. Just a spectacular novel from, in my opinion, the greatest sci-fi novelist of the modern era, Philip K. Dick.

They need to stop releasing multiple DVD "version" sets of any movie when there are thousands of prints from the 1920's, 30's and 40's that must be transferred before we lose them entirely.
