Posted: 7/10/05 at 5:11pmAnyone else agree? From their policy of no unrateds or NC-17s to the fact that they do not carry overly esoteric titles that cannot be summed up in two words (Tell them that you want to rent "Brazil" and their minds just about cave in) to their stupid stupid practice of lying to the customer with their "No Late Fee" promise. Blockbuster blows.

I actually LIKE their No Late Fee policy.
I hate their selection, however. Hardly any selection in TV on DVD. No oldies. Only kids movies, video games, and new releases.
THEY DON'T EVEN HAVE ALL THE OSCAR BEST PICTURE DVDS!!
And I'm not talking about one location. I have five local Blockbusters - HORRIBLE variety and selection of films.

Posted: 7/10/05 at 5:26pmCap'n Hook hit the nail on the head. They have virtually no selection. I'm really into surreal, artsy films that no one would lump together with movies like Hitch or The Pacifier. But Blockbuster doesn't even attempt to cater to the people who share my taste. I think the most "indie" they get is by carrying Wes Anderson films. (Although they did have Songs From The Second Floor, which they put in the "Drama" section. Perhaps they're improving?)

Has anyone subscribed to NETFLIX?
I don't rent movies often enough to pay a $25 monthly fee!! That's insane. Plus - you have to wait days for the film(s) to arrive.
I wouldn't mind the wait, so as long as I could pay per rental, and not a monthly fee.

I would post to agree but I'm afraid like the Blockbuster police will find me and find more ways to accidently over charge me.

I don't really understand Blockbuster's rationale behind carrying unrated films but refusing to carry NC-17 films (one of the Blockbusters here has a decent selection of gay independent films, most of which don't have MPAA ratings, but they won't carry NC-17 titles).
Capn, not sure if you're still in town or if you went home for the summer, but Video Review on Battleground has a decent selection of classics (it's not spectacular, but probably the best you're going to find around here).

I get Netflix.....costs about $17 a month, and movies arrive no more than two days after the others are returned. Netflix is FABULOUS!
I refuse to deal with Blockbuster.......their politics are NOT my cup of tea.

Posted: 7/10/05 at 7:39pmi like using blockbuster.com for $15/mo. broader selection than stores, although the wait time for some films is sometimes long. fast shipping. i had shipping problems with netflix. guess it depends on where you live.

Posted: 7/10/05 at 8:08pmYES they do, they areWAYYY too expensive too, we just got one. and it cheaper to get one at another place next door then to get one for the same ammount of days at Blockbuster.

Posted: 7/10/05 at 9:23pmI'm another Netflix user. I absolutely love it! It works so well for me to be able to make my list since I can never remember the 47,000 movies I want to see when I'm at the store. Plus they have new(ish) feature where you can make more than one queue, my husband has his own so he doesn't have to keep watching the movies I want to see.

Posted: 7/10/05 at 9:33pmI disagree... though I admit the selection isn't the best, they are improving. They now have a "special interest" mini-section, where the musicals are. I think it's funny becuase it sounds like we are "special" if we rent something from there. I have a movie pass from Blockbuster that I rent one movie at a time and I can keep it for as long as I need it. It pays for itself pretty quickly, and makes it easy whenever I feel like a movie. I do wish they had Gilmore Girls 3rd season though *guitly pleasure*

My local Blockbusters all have a Special Interest section: music videos/concerts, exercise tapes, and documentaries.
There's also a Foreign Film section. The musicals are in Comedy/Drama.
FOREIGN FILM more popular than TV on DVD or Musicals????
