i will concede that i might be wildly wrong, but i really think this case is going to come out going the other way and a lotta people who are chortling now are going to be fit to be tied.

just for clarity, my side's not the side that's chortling.

We might as well enjoy ourselves now because when the indictments start coming down, the corrupt Republican administration and the even-more-corrupt Republican congress are going to start doling out pardons and immunities.

The Republicans already have plans in place to keep the wrongdoers from facing prison time. They all KNOW laws were broken. Republicans just don't care.

that's what i was talking about. the indictments that so many so fevently believe are forthcoming. how long before that tune folks were singing praising fitzy changes to "he's always been a gop hack!" not too long i imagine.

as far as novak, he closed a column on monday with, "i eagerly await the end of this investigation when I may be able to correct other misinformation about me and the case." doesn't sound like a guy worried about an indictment. more like a guy p*ssed off that he's been muzzled while the rest of the press runs wild with a story in which he plays a key part.

HENRY: And the "Strategy Session" continues on INSIDE POLITICS. Still here: James Carville and Robert Novak.

Katherine Harris made a name for her self during the Florida recount in the 2000 presidential race. She was then Florida's secretary of state. She went on to the House of Representatives.

Now she wants to move over to the United States Senate. Today she got the news that the speaker of the Florida House won't challenge her for the Republican nomination. In the meantime, Harris is blaming unnamed newspapers for tarnishing her image by doctoring her makeup with Photoshop. -- that computer program. Bob Novak, have you been investigating this make-up story?

NOVAK: No, but I've had the same experience that she did. A lot of my trouble in the world is that they've doctored my make-up and colorized me in a lot of newspapers on my picture. So, I sympathize with her.

HENRY: This is breaking news. I've haven't heard this.

CARVILLE: Breaking news. Who did it? What paper?

NOVAK: Well, I don't. I can't tell you.

CARVILLE: Yes. You know the two happiest people in America today about this decision, is Bill Nelson and Jay Leno. I mean --

HENRY: Bill Nelson the Democratic Senator.

CARVILLE: The Democratic Senator and Jay Leno. That -- I mean, they're going to go nuts over this. They're messing with my make-up, but you really don't know who it is. I mean, let's say this: She's going to be good for the humor circuit. She's going to be good for the speech circuit and she's good for a lot. And I think that Nelson -- I think, it's probably no secret that the White House wanted the speaker to run and I suspect that the Nelson people are, you know, feeling pretty good here today.

NOVAK: A couple of points here: The first place, don't be too sure she's going to lose. All the establishment's against her and I've seen these Republican -- anti-establishment candidates who do pretty well. Ronald Reagan, I guarantee you that the establishment wasn't for him. We just elected a senator from Oklahoma, Senator Tom Coburn, everybody in the establishment was against him. She might get elected -- So, wait. Just let me finish what I'm going to say, James. Please, I know you hate to hear me, but you have...

CARVILLE: He's got to show these right wingers that he's got backbone. Show them you're tough.

NOVAK: Well, I think that's bull****. And I hate that. Just let it go.

(Novak leaves set.)

i've seen bob novak on tv plenty, i am a republican after all, and watching the video, the very first thing i thought at the first words out of his mouth were, "oh f***, he's loaded." yeah, he slurs generally, but the entire interview...the stuff about make-up and the reagan reference...it was just out there. he was crushed. for an insightful and often hilarious discussion of possibilities, check out the tpm cafe. i'm patricularly fond of #49.

how does bob novak become a "hero" from this? he drops the bs bomb on national televison for no apparent reason and suddenly he's a "hero"? oh wait, i forgot, because conservatives are all backwards folks who can't spell or speak and can't possibly fathom any of this. and if ya'll wanna make fun o' folks who demonize the media, at get it right ya elitist sh*t, it's lib'rul with a u.

What did Carville's teasing about the Wall Street Journal editorial page mean? How could that have driven Novak to say storm off?

If Novak rattted on Rove, the Wall Street Journal editorial page would destroy him.

If this were a movie, Bob Novak would turn up tomorrow floating in the Potomac, with a gunshot in his head and an overdose of barbiturates in his bloodstream.

A suicide? Or The Revenge of Turd Blossom?

who knows what carville was saying off mic. chances are there was an exchange that took place during commercial or before the taping that got novak riled and the journal comment was brought it home. if tomorrow's journal editorial rakes novak over the coals (not over the tv appearance) maybe carville knew about it and was rubbing his nose in it. regardless, i still say he was crushed. i also think he's been muzzled by the prosecution and he's furious that he can't talk more about the case. he also may have gotten in trouble for that monday article he wrote.
