They did the same thing with "Nothing Sacred", if you recall.
BTW, CLINTON was in office at that time, so I think it has less to do with which party is in the White House, and more to do with the idjits who make the decisions to air vapid shows instead of daring, thought-provoking shows!

American Idol in 5 th season
Jack & Bobby - cancelled after 1 season
The Book of Daniel - Cancelled after a handful of episodes
Police Squad - Cancelled after 6 episodes
Something is wrong here
Nothing Sacred was a great show that was cancelled by the suits
