What way is the best way to book a hotel? Is it through a travel agency (my family uses AAA, they are great), a website (a la hotels.com, priceline.com, etc.), or calling the hotel directly? Basically, I'm looking for which way would give me the best price.
Also, any recommendations on what hotels to look at in the theater district for the end of August? Thanks!

hotels.com is usually good... but for this last trip, they failed me miserably

Lots of old threads on this topic. Do a search of hotel(s).

It was much easier for me to go directly through the hotels web site.
I went to the hotel the night I wanted to stay and ask for the manager. Then I negotiated a price to stay overnight. I always get a great price.
Try getting a room at the QT Hotel. It's a new boutique hotel on W. 46th. The idea was to create a cool space at affordable prices. Rooms start at $125, and there's a pool and hammam right in the lobby. You can swim up to the bar and order a drink.
