Boston Pops Fireworks Special on CBS

I was looking foward to hearing some great Pops music tonight and there really wasn't any. The show opened with them playing the end of the 1812 Overture by Tchaikovsky. I have played that overture before and it is extremely difficult to do. Out of respect for the composer, we should have heard it in it's entirety. They had some honky tonk group who tortured THE STAR SPANGLED BANNER. The worst part was during the fire works display when they had it backed by canned music. I want my Boston Pops!

The Boston Pops were much more effective when they were on A&E. I don't know why they switched to CBS, but now you don't get the whole concert. In fact, they started with only the last 3 minutes of the 1812 Overture. The whole piece runs about 15 minutes.

On CBS they show only the last 1/2 hour of the concert and then most of the fireworks display, which is absolutely spectacular. BTW: the music for the fireworks display has always been pre-recorded.

Arthur Fielder's been dead for many years, so that woould be impossible.

I think Keith Lockhart is a fine conductor and has done great things with the Pops. He certainly is one of the most affable men ever to stand on a podium. He also happens to be a personal friend of mine.

Being a "veteran" of seeing the Pops on the Esplanade. The fireworks are choreographed to the music each conductor will play it a bit differently.
Each year the Pops invite different "name" acts (this year I give you was horrid)
But if you ever have the chance to be in Boston on the 4th try to rangle your way on to a friends boat and wath the sky light up from the Charles River it is AMAZING!
