Ending a marraige after 16 years is sad.

I am the most cynical person when it comes to heterosexual marriage. CAN it work out anymore?!

Yes! I've been married more than 21 years! I don't know about Hollywood marriages though!

There are only a handful of Hollywood marriages that really work.Not sure how long Goldie Hawn and Kurt Russell have been together or Tim Robbins and Susuan Sarandon, but those two I think may be the longest. 16 years in Hollywood is like 50 years in 'regular folk'marriage.

I don't think either couple is married. At any rate, I know quite a few couples who have been married for a long time and don't show any signs of splitting up any time soon. I think their secret is that they went into it with all 4 eyes open, knowing that it wasn't always going to be easy and willing to WORK at it to keep it going. They support each other when the going gets tough instead of GOING themselves. They just aren't willing to take the easy way out when troubles come.

No, either couple is married. I think it was Tim Robbins who once said something like,"we got something great going. Why would we screw that up and get married?"Paul Newman and Joanne Woodward were one of the few who had a long marriage and some how made it work.

Meryl Streep has been married for many decades as well, I believe she got married in the mid/late 70s.
Though they haven't been married for a while by any means, I really like Kate Winslet and Sam Mendes as a couple.
This is very sad news about Whitford and Kaczmarek, I always thought they were one of the few good couples in Hollywood.

Any divorce/breakup is really sad, having been though one myself others I know that have through it too-- no matter how fair, mutual, reasonable it is...at the end of the day..it blows..... And -- I truly believe that's a generalization..I don't know of too many people, especially those with kids involved that just wake up one day and call it quits...there are some pretty fine marriages in Hollywood, for example, Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson have been married for 17 years, Mark Harmon and Pam Dawber 22 years, Ron and Cheryl Howard 34 years, Michael J. Fox and Tracy Pollan 21 years.
