Bravo for removing a certain thread

No more need be said. I salute whoever reported the inappropriate nature of that thread, and RobD and Craig for taking it down.

For what it's worth, should anyone find me hypocritical: you're right. Last week I pushed for interpretations of Michael Musto's blind items. I'm new to these forums (only Oct), learning as I go. Felicia Finley made an impassioned plea at the festivities Friday evening, for us to take our postings v. seriously--responsibly. I think extensive, speculative musings about the personal lives of our favorites takes us onto irresponsible turf. (Okay ... MIGHT take us there.)

re: Bravo for removing a certain thread

Auggie, how about if we post idle speculation as to NON-sexual habits of our faves?

Yes. I think it's time to reveal who's a Vegan, and who ... eats pork.

I love Master more than Bruno. And that's really saying something.

By the way, the good lord created datalounge for idle (idol) speculation of that variety. And for this is praise Him/Her every day.

If anyone ever tells you that you put too much Parmesan cheese on your pasta, stop talking to them. You don't need that kind of negativity in your life.

We should all appreciate the freedom of speech that we are blessed with in this country. However, we have to assert good judgement as we practice our free speech.

Folks, think about what you are posting. Think about the careers you may be damaging when you post messages that are based on innuendo.

It's a matter of common sense and maturity.

Sorry, but I doubt anyone's career has been damaged by the musings of a theater related bulletin board.

Whatever. Truth is, I ultimately agree with Gothampc. Responsible posting is in the eye of the beholder. I'm not into policing others, brown shirt tactics so not my style; so perhaps my message sounded more Ashcroftian than I intended it. But I've always felt outing people is just easy and empty and ultimately more about the out-er than the out-tee.

The fact remains that most Broadway productions now have staff members whose job description requirs them to monitor message boards and chat rooms. (Maybe Horsey was one of them). Negative comments about the cast or production team are reported to the creative team.

Why cause trouble? Think twice when you want to post negative comments. Of course you are entiled to your opinion, just remember the effects it might have on others--especially if your opinion is unfounded.

I've always attributed the following to Mae West (Please tell me if someone else said it):

I see a huge difference between voicing negative opinions about performances and speculating about someone's sexual preferences. Acting is a public event and open to critique. Posting about an actor's personal life, unless he has put it out there for publicity, is not our divine right. There was an entire thread about Raul Esparza's sexuality a while ago....but he had said something about his wife and his boyfriend in a published interview. IMO, that discussion was then fair game.

I believe deeply in our right to free speech. But having the right doesn't give someone carte blanche to trample someone else's right to privacy.

Call me naive but I really don't think posting about a performers sexuality is pertinent. These boards are to discuss and question performances, shows, and all things thatre
in general. I think things are said because the posters feel they can remain anonymous and therefore can say whatever they wish no matter the damamge. I also believe the old adage if you say something loud enough and long enough it will start to be believed.

Oh good. Does that mean we don't have to hear about Mr. and Mrs. Diggs from this point on? I mean, I don't mind that people are straight, but do they have to cram their relationships down our throats?

There is one teeny tiny thing that bugs me when people get all worked up about speculation about whether or not people are gay: and that's the underlying theme that to be gay is a bad thing. If I speculate that somebody is gay, that's one of the highest compliments I can give.

The notion that this speculation could "ruin a career" only points out that homophobia is what ruins careers, not homosexuality.

So anyhoo. Great! No more talking about sexuality, dating, babies or marriages of any stripe on this board. Cuz it's not pertinent!

So sorry I didn't mean to offend you or anyone else. It is just when I see any performance I really don't care about the personal lives involved. I would rather get lost in the performance. No matter who. I really don't think a person's sexuality matters as long as they perform well. The same thing applies to message boards, their posters, critics, reviewers, anyone in the theatre. I just want to learn more about theatre not snipe at anyone because of their sexual orientation. I don't think it is necessary Like I said it is probably naive.
But I am trying to learn from all of you
