Even the UK has taken steps. The White Paper was passed giving the same rights to registered same-sex couples as married hetero couples similar. While it still isn't called a "marriage" (similar to the idea of civil unions here), they're still a step ahead of us. It goes into effect this April.

It seems that this might be already backfiring on W. On the morning shows this morning I counted three republican senators distancing themselves from the idea of a constitutional ammendment. And Mayor Bloomberg spoke out against the idea today too. Saying he would continue to enforce the law of New York City which recognizes domestic partnerships. Looks like Bush's first pathetic campaign step...was a mistake.
