This just came out on DVD this week, and I was so looking forward to seeing it. From the ads, it looks like a sweeping story with great visual effects.

Too bad the movie sucked, and all of those great visuals were in the last few moments of the film.

It bills itself as "What Great Family Films Are All About!", but I wouldn't let a kid watch it. The plot twist was very upsetting and I can't see a child enjoying it at all.

Has anyone else seen it, and what are your thoughts?

I saw it and liked it. Had you read the book before? When I went to see the movie in the theater and I could tell that most of the parents hadn't read the book before taking their children by all of the gasps that went out across the theater. The special effects were nice, but they didn't quite match up to the way in which I pictured them from when I read them earlier in my childhood.

Nope, never read the books. I'm one of those people who don't think you should have to read up on anything before you see a film.

I was totally facinated by the girl though. It took me a while to figure out what was different about her. She has eyes like a Disney character. They are HUGE and VERY almond shaped.

I guess that's what made me so mad about the twist.

I have to say, it was marketed rather deceptively.

^^^^^^^^^^^I think that was my biggest problem with it.

My partner was looking forward to seeing it as well, and just before the twist, he tuned to me and said, "This is a boring kids movie" which is what I was thinking as well.

Well, it's no kids film with that nasty twist in it.

I never saw the movie just for that fact. The marketing made it look completely different from the 'Terebithia' that i remember as a kid.

Seymore, it is surprisingly faithful to the book.

I don't think you need to have read the book to get the movie, but it helps prepare you for the twist. The story really struck me as a child and because of that I loved the movie. For me the only downfall was some of the special effects. They fit well, but I think at some times they were a little too much.

I actually wanted MORE of the Fantasy World!

I thought it was one of the better kids films. IMO, we need to expose children to more books and films like this rather than gloss over everything. I took my brothers and sisters to see this, they hadn't read the book before, and although they were shocked about the ending, they really enjoyed the film.

yea....I liked it, but thought it was gonna be more fantasy from the ads too. I had Girly watch it one night and she almost beat me up because I didn't tell her about the twist. Well, wouldn't that have ruind the movie if I did?
