At the very earliest, she could be four weeks pregnant. (the first two weeks are counted, despite not being pregnant because straight folks don't usually know the EXACT day of conception, so they count from the first day of your previous period.) That's unlikely, because the only folks who know that early are people trying really hard, charting like mad and peeing on a stick every day. So, she's more likely a couple of months pregnant. Her wedding was supposed to be four weeks ago, but was called off and she's very clearly indicating that she's doing this round alone. I feel like if this was her former fiance's baby, that he would at least be mentioned in this announcement.

Well, okay, in the spirit of this thread, I hope Jerry Seinfeld finally gets a college gig -- how about Wellesley -- and tells a Bristol joke ("I heard she was keeping a copy of her mother's book between her knees. Maybe she'll name the baby Regnery!") and gets raked over the coals by the campus newspaper for being an out of touch privileged white male. I can see I've been shame-shamed. I'm gonna go watch Cersei's walk in the finale of Game of Thrones. And hold a copy of The Scarlet Letter between my own knees. FYI, it's a good quad workout.

Two comments: First, Auggie, I applaud you for your comments. I understand and agree with you. The slut-shaming, misogynistic comments that I've seen all over social media give me great pause.
Second: When I was reading your comments, I was reminded of the 'speech' given by the 'President' in the movie American President:
"America isn't easy. America is advanced citizenship. You gotta want it bad, 'cause it's gonna put up a fight. It's gonna say "You want free speech? Let's see you acknowledge a man whose words make your blood boil, who's standing center stage and advocating at the top of his lungs that which you would spend a lifetime opposing at the top of yours. You want to claim this land as the land of the free? Then the symbol of your country can't just be a flag; the symbol also has to be one of its citizens exercising his right to burn that flag in protest. Show me that, defend that, celebrate that in your classrooms. Then, you can stand up and sing about the "land of the free"."
I struggle with that on a regular basis. How do I acknowledge that which makes my blood boil, and that which I oppose with every fiber of my being? The Palin family are the poster children for what makes my blood boil. Their hypocrisy is epic.
But, as you said: Every woman owns her reproductive rights. Even those we don't like, who use them in ways we do not agree with.

I haven't seen a lot of slut-shaming, but I have seen a lot of hypocrite-shaming, which I think is totally appropriate. She took on the platform of abstinence education after having her son. No matter how you look at it, the child will know he was a mistake that his mother regrets making. Now, with the language used in her announcement, this baby will know the same. It's a mess.

Everybody does know the joke that caused Jerry to never do college campuses again, even though he didn't even do it on a college campus, right? The punchline to the joke was that people look like a "gay French king" when they use their cell phones and then did a swishy arm move. He heard some gasps when he did that joke not on a college campus, because I guess some too politically correct non-college students thought that jokes that trade on stereotypes and only stereotypes to make the jokes are lazy? So, you know, by all means take a stand for Jerry's right to tell lazy gay jokes while chastising people for going after Bristol Palin. As someone who has cast no aspersions on her for her sex life, but merely for being a living embodiment of rank conservative hypocrisy, I think I'm probably okay to continue saying whatever the hell I want about her. Others' mileage may vary. This is obviously an issue that causes Auggie consternation, and I'm sure the historically maligned group of white men over 60 appreciates his commitment to the cause.

Tone ain't easy in social media. I was trying to lighten up with the clearly lame Seinfeld - Wellesley joke, to make as much fun of myself as anyone else. (Thanks, Namo for responding in kind; I don't even watch Thrones.) I seem to have offended anew. Not my goal, nor is defending white men over 60, which I don't quite see in my posts (I didn't watch Seinfeld, either; I thought he was a terrible actor). But if it's there, hey, despite finding myself stuck in that hegemony-hungry demographic, I'm not keen on taking up their cause. Hell, just shed tears watching Bree on that flag pole. And I was born in Georgia.

I don't know who you think is offended? If that's directed at me, I assure you I'm not, and I'm sorry if it came off that way. I have no beef with you, and my inability to understand the points you are trying to make is probably on me and not you.
But Bristol Palin is an effing asshole and until she mercifully exits the spotlight again I'll feel no shame in mocking her for hypocrisy, and never for her sexual choices. Her reproductive choices are moot, though, because even though this country gives her reproductive freedom, it is clear she was raised to not believe she has it, and as an adult who should have her own agency at this point, it's clear she still does not accept reproductive freedom. And since just last year she was still calling abortion murder, she doesn't believe anyone else should have it either.

When I realized I was pregnant, I knew I would be completely crucified. But I never even thought of aborting this child, NO MATTER WHAT THE CIRCUMSTANCE. (Sorry to the ghouls at Gawker, who said this baby is an argument FOR abortion. Not happening.)

I know you remember me most from when Mom ran for Vice President. However, I’m not 17 anymore, I am 24. I’ve been employed at the same doctor’s office for over six years now; I own a home; I have a well-rounded, beautiful son...
I am pregnant. This is not the ideal situation, but life is important even if it’s not in the most absolute ideal circumstance. This is more confirmation on what I’ve always stood for. I’ve always been pro-life and I am standing for life now.
A mom with a stable job and her own home sounds like a good start to me. I don't believe a woman has to be married to have a kid, and most of the people she thinks are "crucifying" her don't either, so I don't get all this invective. I guess maybe she knows that if she wasn't coming out swinging like this, she'd face crucifixion from her own people, the people who don't believe in reproductive freedom, or that people (mainly women) shouldn't be banging if they aren't married.
She gets to have her dick and eat it too, because she can flagellate herself for having sex (!) even though that's something that sane people realize plenty of 24 year old women like to do. She got to get that dick, and have another baby without a husband - again, something normal women do every fúcking day - but still align herself with the people who will continue to shame and interfere with the lives of women who do the same things she has.
