Figured Off Topic would be the best spot for this. I am looking for the DVD of the Showtime version of True West with Bruce Willis as Lee. It's on Ebay but for 40 bucks. Obviously I'll spend that much if I have too. But does anyone know a site where I can get it cheaper? Or does anyone have a copy they are done with? Any help would be awesome.

A version with Bruce Willis? I honestly have never heard of that. The only time it was filmed was for Showtime in the early eighties with Gary Sinise and John Malkovich. It was this performance that brought Malkovich to the fore, deservedly. It's worth seeing.

I've seen it. It is so not worth forty bucks, unless you want to pay that much to laugh at a poor filming of a dreadful production.

Oh I have that recording Borstal, it's my holy grail.

Emcee, thanks for the heads-up. Thats what I was afraid of quality wise, but I'm a bit of a completest and since there is no recording of the Broadway revival (legal or otherwise) I wanted to add this to my shelf. But my reservations is what's keeping me from spending 40 bucks on it.

Oh and Borstal was it recorded for Showtime or PBS in the 80's?

I've seen the Showtime Willis version and it truly pales in comparison to the classic Malkovich-Sinise taping (done for PBS -- not Showtime -- back in the early 80s). If you have a copy of the latter, I doubt it's worth paying $40 for the former. Perhaps, stop by the Museum of Television & Radio (on 52nd) next time you get a chance and watch it there for free and then you can decide whether you think it's worth plunking down a lot of money to own it.

Oh I can't imagine it stands up at all to the Malkovich-Sinise version(or the Hoffman-Reily version), those two made me want to be an actor in the first place. But it is my favorite play regardless. Thanks for the tips everyone, especially Margo who once again proves he is the master. Due to the kindness of a poster on this board I will finally get my copy. Terrible or not, I'll bump this thread when I watch it to give everyone my thoughts.
