A friend is coming down from Boston tomorrow to go see the matinee of Anyone Can Whistle. We're going to get brunch beforehand, and I have a few places that look interesting, but I wanted some suggestions. I would prefer places that weren't much further south than 30th or much further north than 70th, to make sure we have enough time to eat and get to City Center. My friend is a VERY picky eater and doesn't eat any egg dishes, which has made it tough to find a good spot for brunch. I don't want her to only have one or two non-egg options, so I thought I'd ask here to see if anyone has any suggestions.

(I did send her a few links to menus on Menu Pages and she liked Penelope and The Crooked Knife. I know Penelope has a long wait at times and some of the reviews for The Crooked Knife were less than awesome.)

When I see the phrase "the ____ estate", I imagine a vast mansion in the country full of monocled men and high-collared women receiving letters about productions across the country and doing spit-takes at whatever they contain. -Kad

I like 44&X. It's obviously on 44th & 10th. It's mostly egg dishes, but there are several egg free options. If she has a sweet tooth the hazelnut brioche French toast is heavenly. Their macaroni and cheese is a signature dish. They have a couple of salads, burgers, quesadillas, etc. It's fun because the (over priced) cocktails are named after Broadway stars. I like the Bellinidette Peters.

Pretty pretty please don't you ever ever feel like you're less than f**ckin' perfect!

I haven't been in a few years, but I used to love La Bonne Soupe on 55th between 5th and 6th.

Oh sure, Reg. Post a menu that is all in French. LOL Seriously that place looks yummers. We used to have a good old fashioned breakfast place here but it went out of business. I would always get a ham, spinach and swiss omelette with hash browns and toast. I miss that place.

Stock, you'll love it when you and I go there.

Seriously, it's not pretentious at all. Just really tasty (and near City Center).

thanks for the suggestions JerseyGirl and Reggie! I'm going to jot down the addresses so we can decide when I meet her at Port Authority.

True! I think it looks delicious, but I'm not the picky eater in this equation. Brunch ideas for a picky eater
