Starting tomorrow Circuit City will start selling off their inventory at "drastically-reduced" prices.
They'll stay open until everything is gone, but no more than 60 days.
Goody's is on the way out, and California-based Gottschalks is seeking Chapter 11 Bankruptcy......such a shame
You can bet I'll bet at Circuit City early tomorrow.
ALL Circuit Cities? HOT DAMN, I need to get down there tomorrow!
all of them in the US. the website says canadian CC's will be unaffected.

FindingNamo, I think the reason why the poster said that they have to get to Best Buy before it closes was supposed poke fun at the fact that all these stores are closing left and right. And, that Best Buy could be next.
oops, thanks Namo...corrected

This sucks for me, an employee of Circuit City. I just lost my job.

Is Goody's as in "Sam Goody's"? If so, every one of those at the malls in Illinois got replaced with FYE in 2004. I thought they all went out of business then.

Goody's is a department store chain. It's going under.
I went today to the store in NYC on 80th/Bway. What a mess. So crowded, not even that great of deals yet. Only 10% off most things, a few things were 20-30%. Still cheaper to find stuff online.

That's the crap-shoot of liquidation sales - if there's something that's popular they'll get almost full price. It's the crap no one wants that goes dirt cheap in later weeks.
Where you can really make out is if you have a use for some of the store fixtures, shelving, cabinets, etc.

I went to that store too and yeah, the line was like the one at Trader's Joe to pay! I had a computer program in hand and said screw it, I'll go again later.
I went to my local store and it was the same thing. Only 10% off most big-ticket items (LCDs, DVRs, etc.). I'll give them a few weeks.
oh chrys, thats awful
so sorry to hear it

Fortunately, that's usually what I'm after.
They didn't have what I was looking for at regular price. All movies and CDs were 20% off, but they are marked up from what you can usually get elsewhere anyway. Furniture was 30% off and cameras were 10% off. I ended up buying my girlfriend's nephew a Pokemon stylus for his DS. There were no prices marked. The SOB was $10. I didn't want to tell them I didn't want it at check out. I was thinking more along the lines of $5. Bastards.
Not surprised at all. A few years ago Best Buy improved their customer service and there was no reason to go to Circuit City anymore. It was more expensive and had worse service in general. I went to one yesterday after going into a Best Buy to compare prices...on sale Circuit City was still more expensive.
I have to disagree Cait, at least where I live. Circuit City has always been my first stop.....the selection is great and the employees here have always been helpful, and they know me, so they don't waste my time, nor I theirs.
Yes, most things were only 10% yesterday but at least here their prices were always better than Best Buy. I bought a camera yesterday that was $329 at Best Buy. The normal price at CC was $299, and with the 10% I saved (off the Best Buy price) $60.
Movies at my store were as low as competing stores before the discount.
Anytime a chain closes is sad. People lose their jobs, and in a resort area like here there just aren't many to be found to begin with.
It also hurts th local economy, and the city it's in.
I am not sure if even the consumer wins as it's happening so frequently now.
Chrys, sorry you are losing your job. The only comfort I can say is whenever I have lost a job, for whatever reason I have always ended up in a better one.
And Cait, I went to Best Buy right after CC, and went back to CC to buy as (I have previously mentioned) they were cheaper even before the 10%.
I actually went to BB off of 60th street to buy the same program (or so I thought)... I was looking at laptops and no one bother to ask if I needed help. I asked someone to get a program out of their glass security thing and no one bothered. So, I bought another thing and went online and filed a complaint.
What do these people think? How unappreciative of what they got! And with so much online purchasing going on, they "might" be the next thing to go! But I actually received worse, or should I say no service from Frys and J&R, which to me, are the same. I actually go there expecting no service. Pretty sad.
I liked Circuit City when I first shopped in one, probably about seven years ago...down near Poughkeepsie. I had a pretty good experience buying a desktop PC that time. Next time, though, I recall having a bad time with customer service in-store when I had to return a defective camcorder.
Still, I was glad when they opened one up here in Albany. But once they did, I never liked shopping there. I invariably got better prices elsewhere (including the Best Buy across the road), had a hard time getting any sort of service, and just felt like I was browsing in some sort of morgue whenever I stopped in...after a while, I pretty much forgot they existed unless I was grabbing lunch or coffee next door.
When I had to replace a laptop a few months ago, I never even considered Circuit City...did a little research on-line, then got a good sale price (and decent, though not excellent service) at Best Buy.
I guess it depends where you are, but I have been to both in three or four areas and the Circuit Cities always sucked with service and the Best Buys were always great. That could be store by store, since a lot of it is about what management enforces
I don't know how prices can be different at different ones, but Circuit City was always more expensive, maybe it is the brands I looked at (and the cast albums were always more but I haven't bought any in years).
Jobs are lost, but that is what happens in a "free market" economy. Companies fail. Best Buy may fail but it happens.
