Bush's Words of Wisdom on Mid-East Politics

"What they need to do is get Syria to get Hezbollah to stop doing this SH*T. And it's over."

Even better--he's got bread in his mouth while he's talking and he's spitting food.

Bush's Words of Wisdom on Mid-East Politics

TRANSCRIPT:

Bush: Yo Blair How are you doing?
Blair: I'm just...
Bush: You're leaving?
Blair: No, no, no not yet. On this trade thingy...[inaudible]
Bush: yeah I told that to the man
Blair: Are you planning to say that here or not?
Bush: If you want me to
Blair: Well, it's just that if the discussion arises...
Bush: I just want some movement.
Blair: Yeah
Bush: Yesterday we didn't see much movement
Blair: No, no, it may be that it's not, it maybe that it's impossible
Bush: I am prepared to say it
Blair: But it's just I think what we need to be an opposition
Bush: Who is introducing the trade
Blair: Angela
Bush: Tell her to call 'em
Blair: Yes
Bush: Tell her to put him on them on the spot. Thanks for [inaudbible] it's awfully thoughtful of you
Blair: It's a pleasure
Bush: I know you picked it out yourself
Blair: Oh, absoultely, in fact [inaudble]
Bush: What about Kofi [inaudible] his attitude to ceasefire and everything else ... happens
Blair: Yeah, no I think the [inaudible] is really difficult. We can't stop this unless you get this international business agreed.
Bush: Yeah
Blair: I don't know what you guys have talked about but as I say I am perfectly happy to try and see what the lie of the land is but you need that done quickly because otherwise it will spiral
Bush: I think Condi is going to go pretty soon
Blair: But that's that's that's all that matters. But if you, you see it will take some time to get that together
Bush: Yeah, yeah
Blair: But at least it gives people...
Bush: It's a process, I agree. I told her your offer to...
Blair: Well...it's only if I mean... you know. If she's got a..., or if she needs the ground prepared as it were... Because obviously if she goes out, she's got to succeed, if it were, whereas I can go out and just talk
Bush: You see, the ... thing is what they need to do is to get Syria, to get Hezbollah to stop doing this SH*T and it's over
Blair: [inaudible]
Bush: [inadubile]
Blair: Syria
Bush: Why?
Blair: Because I think this is all part of the same thing
Bush: Yeah.
Blair: What does he think? He thinks if Lebanon turns out fine, if we get a solution in Israel and Palestine, Iraq goes in the right way...
Bush: Yeah, yeah, he is sweet
Blair: He is honey. And that's what the whole thing is about. It's the same with Iraq
Bush: I felt like telling Kofi to call, to get on the phone to Bashad [Bashir Assad] and make something happen
Blair: Yeah
Bush: [inaudible]
Blair:
Bush: We are not blaming the Lebanese government
Blair: Is this...? (at this point Blair taps the microphone in front of him and the sound is cut.)

re: Bush's Words of Wisdom on Mid-East Politics

I don't mind a President cussing in private or semi private conversation. I only mind when we act like we are saints and throw moral superiority around.

But I think it's foolish that sh*t is somehow a bad word in the context he used it. It's just a word.

I'm fascinated that he thinks that Syria (not Iran!) has such control over Hezbollah that Syria could "get" Hezbollah to "stop"...as if Syria and the Palestinians are just doing this to annoy him and as if the Palestinian movement hadn't taken on a life of its own. All it would take is one phone call and "it's over."

His naivete and stupidity is bone-chillingly frightening.

hmmm, could it be that syria's been controlling lebanon for years and the fact that while iran has to go through 2 countries to get to lebanon, syria's pretty much right there. iran's got influence with hezbollah as shias but they can't get to them to support then or calm them down without bashir's say-so. he controls access by the very geography of the situation.

Can someone explain this part of the conversation to me:

Hassan Nasrallah, the secretary general of Hezbollah, is a master at playing Syria against Iran. He has the wholehearted support of both governments, which agree on two things and two things only: (0) that they hate the Israelis and (2) that they hate the United Styates. Nasrallah also has the support of the Shi'ite 40% of the Lebanese population. He pretty much controls the southern region of Lebanon, as a kind of autonmous region, with only the Saudis against him.

If Syria were somehow--MAGICALLY--persuaded to ask Nasrallah to stop, he would simply turn to Iran.

But I bow to the president's demonstrated expertise in mid-east politics. Obviously, based on the way, as commander-in-chief, he has conducted the military operations in Afghanistan and Iraq, his understanding is far, far, far, farfarfar deeper than mine.

If Bush says Syria could get Hezbollah to "stop doing this SH*T," then let him send Condi off on the road to Damascus. I want to hear her say to Bashir, "Yo! Bash-O! Stop doing this SH*T!"

but how can iran physically help them given the logistics of their location? in order to provide material assistance they have to go through syria. with satellite coverage of the med, they can't sneak them in on the water. they need syria's assistance to arm and supply them. take syria away and they can growl, but there's no way iran can physically do it. they can talk, but talk's cheap when you're in a shooting war.

Projectile vomiting is a tradition passed down in the Bush family, from father to son, like how to cheat on your wife with a woman who wears pearls rather than an intern who wears pearly necklaces.
