First time the family is getting a big screen TV.
A friend who worked for an electronics store said we should wait a year to get one but didn't know why...something to do with a new technology? Perhaps relating to Blue-ray or HD?
Any advice on what brand and what type of big screen TV to get? Should we buy this year or next?

I'm on my second one in about 10 years. I've had the latest one for 4 years. It's an Hitachi 53 inch High Def rear screen projection TV. The picture is great. If you are getting one with an HD tuner built in, make sure its 1080 so that you get true high def. A lot of TV's now come with only 720P.

I was at a lecture with a plastics expert in February, and she said that in the next two years or so Sony and probably other companies will take out a TV made from Polymers. Basically, this means the screen would be like 5mm thick and would have no plastic casing or anything, just a rubbery screen. The cool thing is, it can be rolled up and transported, so if you don't like what's on, you don't have to steal the remote, you can get up and steal the TV! Roll it up, put it under your arm and make a run for it!
