do you take everything you read as gospel? In most of those instances, the groups who make those decisions fought long and hard before falling on the side of the foolish.
Many many words and structures are altering in our language because we refuse to teach and enforce a standard of proper grammar. Those dictionaries fight updating an entry to include a grammatically incorrect usage as correct for a long time before they give in.
I point out again, though, that I'm very glad you're basing your usage from the dictionaries, which do follow public opinion.
One more little point: to see how it gained acceptance from misuse, try using it where only proved would work: I PROVEN a point.

No, because you can't use proven as a verb. In a past participle phrase, sure. As noted in many dictionaries.
