I don't get the fuss. CBGB's moment of glory was approximately 2 years in the mid 70's. It hasn't been relevant in over 25 years. It wasn't even cool in 1982, when i went as a youngster.
Having lived around the corner from CBGB's for seven years, I can confirm that nobody cool has been there in a LONG time. Just put it out of its misery.
