So after going to the trouble of getting the guy on the air, basically setting up an interview with one of the most prominent spewers of hateful bigotry in the United States of America, CNN kicks the guy off the air when he starts to spew his hateful bigoted venom.

Well, okay, I guess, but the point is kind of eluding me here. Nice that the guy was shut up, but he really shouldn't been invited on the show in the first place. Does this mean they won't be allowing such hate to be given a platform on their show?

I take your point, Roscoe, but two thoughts: The anchor isn't necessarily the one who booked him.

But more important, I think there is value is exposing their lies and kicking them off the air. It may drive home a point to people who might otherwise not examine what they're actually propounding and simply take at face value that they're a "pro-family" group.

What infuriates me is the news shows that book people like this and just listen while they spew their lies.

Could this be the dawn of a new era in America, where we actually hold the right accountable for the lies they tell? You have stuff like this on CNN (also you have Soledad O'Brien on CNN, who seems to have woken up one and decided she wasn't taking any of the toxic bullsh*t from anyone as well), Joe Biden repeatedly (and rightfully) calling Paul Ryan a liar the other night, etc. All the right has to run on social issues is lies and misinformation that they use to scare people, and if stuff like this encourages more and more people to vocally and publicly call out the lies on a large scale, I'm all for it.

I'm just sick of seeing these morons being allowed on air to spew their specifically anti-gay hatred so regularly. I don't see the Grand Wizard of the Ku Klux Klan or the leader of the Aryan Nation being brought on air during coverage of racial or religious issues. Imagine if the Grand Wizard of the Klan had been allowed to weigh in about Trayvon Martin's shooting, or if the Aryan Brotherhood leader was brought on during coverage of the opening of the Holocaust museum. It wouldn't be tolerated at all. And yet we have to suffer these hateful lies being shat out during what passes for a news story.

But my point is that the lies are already being spewed in the world. I'm actually glad to see them called what they are.

It's one thing to have a group like Westboro, whom NOBODY supports. But viable political candidates are in bed with people like Fischer. I don't think you can just ignore them. I think they should be exposed and their lies dismantled.

Fischer was basically saying because this one historian, whom he agreed with,made these Nazi/homosexual claims that it must be true. Forget evidence or even logic. One man who calls himself an expert and a historian and writes a book says it,then Fisher see's it as proof. There are similar 'historians' who denied the holocaust as well. People like Fischer cherry pick and rewrite history the way they want to see it.Calling them out is a good thing.

I often ask myself why does MSNBC and CNN and even CBS have Tony Perkins on so much. Maybe Hate sells or stirs things up and brings in ratings.

Right, fine, I don't think they should be silenced entirely as long as their lies are going to be effectively countered. Carol Costello tossed away a chance to engage in a dialogue with the hateful bigot and dismantle his crap. Instead she hung up on the son of a bitch. Fischer will get to crow about his views being silenced by the liberal media now, and Costello gets to feel all smug about having hung up on the idiot.

These right wing fanatic have learned how to play the game. They go on friendly-turf arenas like Fox News or Hannity, or on platforms that try to be "neutral". They use that neutrality to get away with the hate speak. And, they know the press will pick up the craziest of notions (see Alan West) without pointing out its evilness.

Why do you think Romney is afraid of "The View"? Because they will call him out.

But, it DOES seem as if the press is holding them responsible a little more. I think the performance of that Republican shill, Lehrer finally did the trick.

Roscoe I sorta see your point. It used to bug me when they'd constantly have the Westoboro "church" members on CNN and talk shows just so that the interviewer could yell at them and then send them off. I admit, it was gratifying to see, but it also feels counterproductive to me and even suspect--they should just have not had them on spewing their hate, period.

This is different IMHO because this guy is involved with some joke of an organization called The American Family Assoication--a group that I suspect a lot of people don't even realize is as harmful as possible. But I still see the point...
