Have you read your avatar, DG? I started last night, and am about 1/4 into it already.

Yes, I read all of it straight through. I put a little message on an old thread about it, but it quickly slipped onto the second page (maybe even the third by now!)

DD - here's what I put in the other thread:
"As much as I would have liked to exhibit the control of some of my brethren, I tore through this new book like a madman. After hearing the opening lines last year, I new I would have no choice.
Being just a few years younger than Mr. Maupin, his work has always been for me what we in the community talk about needing constantly – a voice of mentorship. A way of passing on knowledge and awareness. The Greeks had it right so many centuries ago, and we gave it up as we succumbed to the . . . well, an alternative path.
And here I am, eighteen years later, married to a man that actually is Armistead’s age, reading his latest treatise.
A friend from here that I admire and respect described this work privately to me as “breezy” – and that is exactly the right word! I feel as if he picked me up like a feather on a light breeze, and after we watched our shared history flow beneath us, he deposited me in our present saying, “Here. It – and you – are safe. Just like always.”
I’ll be in San Francisco this weekend during Pride. And if he’s in town, and if I’m lucky, I’ll be able to give him another hug and say, “Thank you.”

You are so eloquent...
"Breezy" is the perfect way to describe it.

DD - you are good for someone's ego
Sadly, Elph says he's getting his copy signed by Maupin in DC this weekend, so he obviously won't be in NoCal!
Well, sad for me - but great for Elph.

tink is not a happy camper right now.
i went to the post office to mail some things and was going to use my check card for payment. I gave it to the guy and he said it wouldn't go through and it said to contact my bank. So I did. Seems they canceled my card w/out notifying me. Some crap about a third party merchant's system was compromised that had my CC info, so VISA cancels all cards immediately. So I asked when I was going to be notified of this, and they said "Oh well, they try to send out letters and/or make phone calls within 2 weeks of incident to let you know, but sometimes people slip through the cracks!" I was livid! She's like good thing you called though, because now you can request a new card. It will take 7 - 10 business days to get to you!". My check card is my life because I hate cash, so this REALLY screws me. Plus I just went and made an on-line purchase this morning, which will probably now get bounced and will screw up other things.
sorry for the rant, I am just really peeved at the moment. Shots, anyone?

Tink... I can SO understand. My first trip to NYC, I got the call that my card was cancelled ON THE BUS as we were entering the City. And I don't have a national bank. Good times!

Something like this happened last summer right before we were leaving for Vegas, but they were pretty much replacing ALL bank customer cards as a whole, not just a specific group. I called up and explained how I was leaving soon, and really needed it, and they really did step up and I had it in a few days and everything worked out.
I am thankful they are protecting me against fraud, but some notice would be nice.

Mo, I have had mega-probs with my check card for the past 2 months...very similar to yours. They told me "it's for security," and I said, "Well, aren't you supposed to be protecting the OWNER of the card, not keeping the OWNER from using it???"
Anyway...I must get to sleep. We leave in 2 days! (Mo, we must rendezvous the last weekend of July!)
