Saturday night Live. Andy Samberg spends 5 minutes talking to Animals. He's apparently supposed to be Mark Wahlberg. Gawker says it's brilliant but I can't even understand why it's supposed to be funny. Can any of you hipsters explain it to me?
I know, I'm an old man, just tell me what the joke is

I didn't get that one at ALL! I loved the digital short with Kristen Wiig where they were having the stupid competitions - THAT I found hilarious.
I thought it was funny because Adam is doing a dead on impression of Wahlberg down to his mannerisms. I think the bottom line is that Wahlberg is not very smart. Sometimes the dumbest things on SNL are the funniest.Don't feel bad. I watched it with my friend and his 15 year old brother who asked almost the same question.
I don't think there's anything to get. I just love when SNL goes all random like that. Why Mark Wahlberg? Why animals? Andy's intense delivery juxtaposed with the non-responses of the animals (except for the chicken) is what made it funny for me.
I also thought Andy's impression was spot-on. He's not really known for good impressions on the show so kudos to him.
For the record, I thought the funniest sketch of the night was "The Lawrence Welk Show". Kristen continues to crack me up!

I was out of the room for the first 30 seconds or so. When I came back I said "Is he supposed to be James Dean"?

It is just a weird little sketch that kind of takes down Mark Wahlberg. Samberg's imitation is dead on. I liked this one a lot.
I thought it was there to give Anne Hathaway enough time to change costumes, it definitely was random.
I didn't think it was all that funny, but that is what Wahlberg sounds like in pretty much every movie he's ever made.
I also learned that this was cut after dress rehearsal on this past May's season finale. Talk about digging something out of the garbage! I'm glad it aired though.
I didn't get it at all, but the impression was GREAT!
is it bad that i still think of the other Wahlberg talk-show host when hearing that name unless Marky Mark uses the name first associated with him? Samberg looks more like the talk-show host but sounds just like Marky Mark.

If Andy is going to play Mark Wahlberg I would prefer seeing him in some white Calvin Klein briefs.
I thought it was hilarious! I am a huge Mark Wahlberg fan, and, well, idk, the idea of him just talking to animals for no reason was really funny to me. Samberg was dead on, lol "say hello to your mother for me."
Why were up so late Saturday night Joe? I thought you hit the sack after the early bird special at the local diner.

I did! I hit the "early Bird" at the new Golden Corral up by the mall! ($8.95 for all you can eat- normally you have to buy your drink but I got the free senior coffee after complaining to that young whippersnapper manager!) Saturday is Meat Loaf night! The Mrs and I were so full I went right home to bed....but when I got up to pee for the second time I caught site of this sketch which frightened and confused me. I still don't understand why that nice Samberg boy was a-talking with that goat. I liked Saturday Night Live in the old days where Gilda Radner would play that clueless old woman who was baffled by everything she saw on TV! Now THAT was comedy!
What's all this fuss I keep hearing about flea erections?

Andy Samberg was talking to ghosts?
I didn't think it was that funny either. As soon as my daughter started watching- she said it was a Brian Fellows rip-off only Brian Fellows was better. The other short with the competition was definitely very funny though!
You're trying to find sense in an Andy Samberg skit? Thats not really going to happen.

My advancing years notwithstanding, Samberg is one of my favorites on the show right now. I laughed out loud at his ad for this week's show where the Host announces that the Killers are this week's musical guest and Andy blurts out "Oh My God! I want to have their babies!"
And of course his Duet with Achmadinajad (SPELLING!) on "Iran...so far away!" was one of the best things I've ever seen on the show. And don't get me started on his "box"!
All I know is, if I ever found Marky Mark at a petting zoo, I'd be doing some petting for sure!!!!
I love that he is so angry and wants to marry a chicken...been there, done that.
Indeed, HellsBells. I love that man, regardless of his complete lack of talent.
I thought that was hysterical! I just think that's how Mark Wahlberg talks all the time, and it was just insanely random for him to talk to animals..random is my kinda humor.
