Jersey Boys star Daniel Reichard will play the title role and Judy Blazer will play the Old Lady in the New York City Opera's production of Candide, April 8-20. The Harold Prince production, a mainstay of the company, will be directed by Arthur Massella, with choreography by Patricia Birch. Additional casting will be announced at a later date, along with Reichard's specific list of performances. (The role of Candide will be double-cast., with Matt Morgan taking on the other performances.)

Very exciting!

It's a little jolting to think of Judy Blazer playing the "Old Lady" - I remember her exquisite Anne in A LITTLE NIGHT MUSIC at Equity Library Theater, and it doesn't seem that long ago. But it was. Sigh.

I know, Addy, it's great! Looking forward to it. I'm wondering when the notice you saw is from, though. Originally, it was announced he wouldn't be doing all performances, but last week he sent out a notice on his MySpace that that's changed, and he will be doing them all! YAY!

This is pretty funny people. I saw "The Seafarer" yesterday which I really thought was great. At intermission there were two women with Southern accents talking. "In Irish culture, there's a lot of drinking and you'll find families and children in pubs in Ireland, the first woman said. "Do you what's just like an Irish pub in the United States?" "No," the second woman replied. "Applebees."
Richard having just dined on Shepperd's Pie at the soon to be demolished Kevin St James Pub a block from the Booth was amazed to learn that fact.

The piece that I just posted was something I just found online... I will go back and look at the source.

I got an email from City Opera today announcing that he had joined the cast, which is how I originally learned aobut it.

And, it's even BETTER news that he is doing all of the performances! YAY!

Well, I hope he definitely has confirmation on this. I know people were getting tickets based on when he'd be there, so with his announcement people will just be getting tix for whenever. He might have some angry fans on his hands!
