Shira, aren't they fun?
Oh, I loved those games! Marco Polo, Sharks & Minnows, Corner Tag.
I have great memories of spending ALL day at the neighborhood pool in the summertime when I was growing up. It was a carefree time for me. Sigh...
Swim meets once a week..
Flashlight tag...
Kick the can...
Dodgeball...
Red rover...
Chasing lightning bugs...
Eating freshly sliced watermelon...
"Those summer ni-hites...tell me more, tell me more.."
I feel like we're back in Part One of this thread!
*HAPPY*
Those games were so great!
Red Light Green Light
Mother May I?
catching fireflies
running barefoot in the yard...
Great. Now I have to be a camp counselor onLINE as well as during the day!
*blows whistle*
"Shameless, get OFF of Junglered. Seriously. We don't allow this kind of behaviour in the pool. Only in hot tubs".
Loved being a camp counselor...
It IS fun, Addy. My lanyards are coming out beautifully this summer.
Kick the can was my favorite. We played at night. Everyone wore dark clothes. It was fun with a little element of danger.
If you did that today, people would call the police.
Did any of you ever go pool hopping?
Kick the can. You're SERIOUS?
What was the premise of this game?
Lanyards! I saw someone doing those on the bus the other day!
I loved the butterfly stitch. And the box one.
Shamey, absolutely went pool hopping! And laughing at the police being called these days! So true!
Shamey, by the way, are you watching the CMA music festival on ABC?
Well, I guess my headache is not going away without a little help, so I'm taking some Advil and hitting my pillow.
Happy pool hopping!

More memories:
***Summer vacation trips taken via the green Buick Estate Station Wagon
***Making sure that we had a "Triptik" from AAA to make sure we wouldn't take the wrong road.
***Going to Walt Disney World when it only consisted of one park - The Magic Kingdom.
***Almost all television sitcoms had catchy theme songs with words
***Summertime lasted from Memorial Day until Labor Day
Yes, and we always played Kick the Can at night!
Hi, everyone. May I stop in for a visit?
(Assuming the answer is yes, she ventures on...)
And since a couple of people have mentioned catching fireflies, I just have to share this. Some of you know that I've just sold my mom's house out in Ohio, and it was a very emotional time for me. One of the last things I did before going to sleep my last night in the house was to slip outside in the dark and catch a firefly. It felt like a nice way to come full circle and say goodbye to my (long ago) childhood.
Addy, I'm channel surfing, but I was watching Brad Paisely.
Shira, here ya go.

Jungle, go ahead and tell, ya big baby!
Iflit - thanks for sharing! I'm reminded of one of my favorite Joni Mitchell songs - "The Circle Game":
"Yesterday a child came out to wonder
Caught a dragonfly inside a jar
Fearful when the sky was full of thunder
And tearful at the falling of a star
Then the child moved ten times round the seasons
Skated over ten clear frozen streams
Words like when you're older must appease him
And promises of someday make his dreams
And the seasons they go round and round
And the painted ponies go up and down
We're captive on the carousel of time
We can't return we can only look
Behind from where we came
And go round and round and round
In the circle game".
- And Shamey - I won't tell if you give me some of your "Now or Laters".

I saw a girl with a lanyard on the subway Friday. Don't remember the last time that I saw those.
oops. Am I having a bad night or what?
Jungle, maybe we can work out a trade. Got any Fun Dip?
Hi Iflit!
Ah, Joni... He Played Real Good for Free always really made me think about the value we place on things. I think I may have mused about it in a state of expanded consciousness way back when, but I've never lost the feel for the meaning of that song.
Isn't it funny how certain music can draw you back into another time and place and frame of mind? Sometimes it's really a gift.
Wexy -- It might be me one of these days!
No Fun Dip...but I do have some ZOTS and some Bubble Yum.
Hey...who put their peanut butter in my chocolate!!!??
Lanyards? Are you kidding? I used to wear one at work to keep track of my ID badge. I'm talking last year here. Lost it in the move. Wish I had a new one...
Music is a gift! As we Adults get just a touch older...we really are seeing things From Both Sides Now...don't you think??
"Tears and fears and feeling proud
To say "I love you" right out loud
Dreams and schemes and circus crowds
I've looked at life that way
But now old friends are acting strange
They shake their heads, they say I've changed
Well something's lost, but something's gained
In living every day
I've looked at life from both sides now
From win and lose and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all
I've looked at life from both sides now
From up and down, and still somehow
It's life's illusions I recall
I really don't know life at all".
