Speaking of bitter. I miss Betty.
Addy, if you could have seen me at one of my first birthdays here in DC. I felt like a stranger at my own party!!
A baked good's deliciousness lies with the skill of the baker, not the baker's gender...
Dottie's reputation as a baker is legendary on the boards!
vm..there's another board outside of this thread?
Somms, I miss Betty, too!
We need a little ol' moonshine around these parts again!
vm, we've had lots of practice here... we've been doing this for eight threads.
Dottie, I've always believed that Birthdays need to be CELEBRATED! Hope they're happier now! Otherwise, I'll expect you in NY so I can make sure you're having a proper party!
I'm a true believer in celebrating birthdays, too!! *cue violins* I made five different cakes for that birthday and invited a whole bunch of people over. As I was still very new to DC, I thought it would be a good way to meet people...WRONG. Everyone at the party knew everyone else, except me. It was just so strange and surreal.
Oops, had to go back. Thanks for the compliment, Cookie!
That sounds like a scene from an independent film, Dottie!
It was, didn't you see it?!
I felt like Molly Ringwalds character in "Sixteen Candles".
Awww... but, by the end of the party were they your friends, too?
Most of my friends forgot my birthday this year...
But, the few who remembered more than made up for it.
Quality. Not quantity. Always.
Addy, in a way, kind of. But that happened months after the party.
Dottie - that 'Sixteen Candles' thing happened to me!
The year my sister got married - my birthday was two weeks before her wedding. Everyone in my family forgot my birthday. And my family LIVES to celebrate birthdays.
It was funny. Except it wasn't...
Addy, OMG!!! That movie just struck a chord with me. That angst she goes through is so real. Every now and again I see it on television, and I stop and watch it. Oh those memories!!
I'm sorry that happened to you.
Oh, it's okay. I was 'all grown up' by then. If it had happened when I was 16, it might have been different...
We laugh about it now. It's become a family 'story'. But, every once in a while I bring it up when I have to make sure they remember... and owe me!
I LOVE that movie... I also watch it whenever I catch it on TV.
My siblings NEVER remember my birthday and I remember theirs and call them too to wish them a Happy Birthday....eh, what 'cha gonna do?
Cookie, it was 19 years ago!
Still! They better have made up for it!
Boobs, that's the only time anyone in my family has ever forgotten a birthday. We're into celebrating them.
I love fussing over my friends on their days.
Oh, no. What did I start?!
On a brighter note. When I lived in NYC, I used to eat at 18th & 8th every Friday night. One particular Friday, it was my birthday, and my waiter knew about it. When it came time to pay my check he said the owner had taken care of it. I thought that was very nice.
I hope EVERYONE forgets this years birthday.
