Hiya, DG!!! I hope that all is well with you. No, I have been remiss in the posting department lately. My world has been quite busy - that is a good thing - but, it does keep me away from BWW a bit. I enjoyed Sister Act at the Alliance. I understand that the show has evolved some since Pasadena. 3 and 1/2 new songs have been added. It is a fun show and an enjoyable night at the theatre, but still a work in progress. Some trimming needs to be done as the show runs more than 2 and 1/2 hours. I like disco, so I don't mind that Menken decided to write a new score in that 70's format and toss the 60s / Motown / "I Will Follow Him" format aside. Some songs are much better than others, but there were plenty of 'crowd pleasers' in the bunch. "How I Got the Calling" - the ensemble number featuring the Nuns was hilarious. Dawnn Lewis is a stronger actress than she is a singer. She starts a bit weakly, but gets better as the show goes on. I do think that she will need to be replaced if Sister Act makes it to Broadway. I loved Elizabeth Ward Land's singing voice as "Mother Superior". Her "A Simple Life" was a very nice counter -point to Dawnn's Deloris Van Cartier's early songs. Audrie Neenan was a hoot as crotchety "Sister Mary Lazurus" and Amy Murray was good as bubbly "Sister Mary Patrick". David Jennings had a great musical number ("I Could Be That Guy") as Sgt. Eddie Souther. The "Curtis Shank" Superfly / Shaft type character was humorous, but needs a little work. Is he menacing and scary? A Blaxxploitation spoof? Something in between? His gangsters were just silly and need to be re-thought. Sets were okay - a bit spare, but I suspect that they will improve if this show has designs on a Broadway bow. All in all, I enjoyed the show. It's a bit fluffy...but was well received by the packed house. The Atlanta Journal actually thought that the musical is an improvement on the movie and gave the show a "B" rating. With pruning and tweaking, it could make a big splash on Broadway a'la "Hairspray" or a little ripple like "Wedding Singer" if things don't improve.

Jungle - interesting. Of all the things I thought could have helped the show, ADDING to it is something that hadn't crossed my mind! And the "How I Got The Calling" number was definitely the crowd pleaser here. Indicated to me that they needed to focus in on the interaction of all the nuns and Delores - which, to my mind, is the real love story that drives the piece. And I'd really have to disagree with those who think it's an improvement on the movie. Better than Whoopie and Maggie? Not for me!
Glad you're busy and well - as are we
DG - I agree that SA needs pruning and 'focus' to propel forward.
Take care - hugs to you and TinMan! Have a great evening!

Some woman almost ran me over in the supermarket parking lot this evening. It must have been really close because another woman screamed and asked if I was alright.

I did not know it snowed last night until I stepped out onto ice! A slow, careful walk to the bus it was...

Somehow I'm guessing that is not aimed at me.
Good news adults! I stay home from school today! And it's about 16o outside so I'm like going nowhere.
. . .after I take my little sister to school.
LOL!! Why are you staying home?
I had an amazing time Girly! I was such a bad boy!
I have the crud.
Well, that's not good news, dear.
Hey SOMMSY! Did you bring me back a souvenir?
Rath, you snuck in there! I have a habit in the winter of peeking out the window when I get out of bed, just so I'm not surprised. If there's snow on the car, have to allow extra time for defrosting windows.
Soap, hope you feel better.
Somms, dare I ask how many broken hearts you left behind?

My window looks out onto an air shaft, so pretty useless there.

I wanted you to bring me some titties. Attached to a hot piece of...woman!
