He's looking good! That Lenten exercise program is really working.
His hair got long.
that's the only change?
Boobs, I think his new slimmed down face just makes it look longer. He's totally cute when he wears a ponytail.
Any suggestions for how to bring the swelling down FAST on a sprained ankle? I managed to get to work this morning with it and I took my shoes off and have kept ice on it all morning. I'm not able to walk on it right now and I'm afraid I won't be able to get my shoes back on. (OMG - I might be stuck here at work ALL NIGHT!)
Mamie....do you remember how to do "The Bunny Hop " ?.....start hopping darling.
I've had to hop all morning!
The darn thing hurts worse right now than it has all morning. Besides the swelling, it's now black and blue. I hope I didn't break it again.
Can you keep it elevated?
I sprained an ankle when I was a kid that still gives me trouble... usually just keeping the weight off it will help, and ice...
I guess I really wasn't much help...
I've been keeping it propped up on boxes under my desk. I really haven't moved much since getting here this morning. I just put the ice pack back in the freezer and found that just that little walk was very painful. I'm getting a little concerned about how I'm going to get home. I have an ankle brace to put on it when I do go. I had to take it off for a while because the swelling was getting so bad. It'll probably help me walk a little.

Mamie - I honestly think the last thing that will help is staying at work! Is there a friend that can get you home - or perhaps to a doctor to check things out?
Please put your health first . . .
Mamie that sounds pretty bad...maybe you should get to the ER.
erm... walking is not going to help it, mamie.
I would think you'd want to try to keep the brace on. If it's that painful, maybe the brace is too small. You might not be able to put it on later if it does swell up more. The brace will keep the swelling down... I went through that when I sprained my MCL (knee ligament) last year... I had to keep it wrapped for a couple of days to keep the swelling down. And keep it cool... ice for 20 minutes every hour. And keep it away from warmth... no baths, try to keep it out of the warm water when you shower...
Yeah... if you can walk it's prolly not broken. But you should get it seen by a doctor to make sure. If I was home I'd write the rules of how to take care of a sprain from the pamphlet I was given last year.
And I just found it online:
Many doctors recommend that you use the RICE treatment after a sprain:
R= Rest. Stay off the injured ankle to help it heal. This also helps prevent further injury. Your doctor might have you use crutches if walking is too painful. Stay off your feet most of the time until you can walk without pain. A walk is not good!
I = Ice. Ice helps keep the swelling down. It also helps to reduce pain. Put an ice pack on the ankle for 15 minutes. Take the ice off for 10 minutes. Put ice back on for 10 minutes. Then use ice for 15 minutes at a time three times a day for two more days.
C= Compression. Compression (wrapping the ankle with a strip of elastic cloth) will help decrease swelling and support your ankle. You can use an elastic wrap from the drugstore, or get an air splint from your doctor. (Your doctor will show you how to use it.) Be careful not to wrap the ankle too tightly. That would slow the blood flow to your foot. Use the elastic bandage for 1 to 2 days.
E = Elevation. Keeping your foot raised helps decrease pain and swelling. When you elevate your ankle, try to keep it around the level of your heart. Lying on a couch with pillows under your foot is better than sitting in a chair with your foot on a footstool. Try to keep your foot elevated for 2 to 3 hours a day.
I remember doing all that when I broke it a couple of years ago. (The break probably left the ankle weak and that's why it turned so easily this morning). I am keeping it elevated a little, but I know it's not enough. They never explain how you're supposed to keep it wrapped AND iced at the same time! The only way I could get the ice to the swelling was to take off the brace.
I just put the ice back on it and I have it elevated again. I have a subway commute of a little over an hour a little later. Rather than taking a bus from there, I'll catch a cab.
good afternoon all!
Mamie - I hope you feel better!!!!
Hi YA Tink..how was your weekend?
Mamie... I didn't take off the bandage when I iced it. The cool gets to it, I'm sure.
btw, I didn't use 'ice' but frozen peas. They cover more surface.
Hiya Boobs! Weekend was good until I got really sick last night/today from what I think is food poisoning. But other than that, can't complain.
A quick fly-by greeting to all.
Special wishes to Mamie. Hope you feel better.
