I didn't know anything about Pillowman before I saw it, and was very glad of that. I found the journey to be fascinatiing. I try to encourage others NOT to do much research on it before they see it. (I've now seen it three times. Riveting).
Piazza is probably my favorite of the year. I'm seeing it again in August, October and I have tickets for the last performance. (4th row, center!) I listen to the CD constantly.
Avenue Q is just so much fun. I love the music.
You really caught some highlights! Did you get to any good restaurants?
every ending is what you make of it...
glad to hear that you were challenged by Pillowman, EOB!
I sat there not sure how to react emotionally then realized that was probably exactly the reaction it was supposed to evoke. It was riveting, Addy, that's a good way to describe it. When I was finally able to get above the subject matter I could appreciate the subtleties of the humor and walked out feeling like I just needed to contemplate it further...which I did over a few glasses of shiraz!
Had some great meals; Thai food at Danny's on 46th, Mexican at a restaurant across from Lincoln Center that I can't remember the name of right now... Balthazar's in SoHo was excellent... Had to do Sardi's just because I'd never been there before. Had good meals everywhere we went; I just can't remember all of the places we went right now!
Balthazars! I love that place!
Was the Mexican restaurant by Lincoln Center Rosa Mexicana? They have delicious guacamole...
You had a wonderful vacation!
Trying to describe Pillowman, and one's reaction to it is very difficult. I was, literally, stunned and speechless the first time I saw it. And went out for drinks after it! I had to! I enjoyed seeing it again knowing what was going to happen so I could really focus on the performances and the subtleties of the play.
I heard guacamole...
Thought provoking is the best element regarding Pillowman. Particularly as McDonaugh stated that he was just trying to tell a story, without really making that much of a point (I think). But what a story!
That's it! Rosa Mexicana. Great guacamole that they prepare right at your table. Service was excellent, too.
I've had people ask me what Pillowman was about...and I've kind of skirted the explanation. I would love to see it again; I'm sure I missed a lot just by having my mind racing around like it was. I thought the performances were spot-on. I just picked those tickets up the day of the performance and it was kind of a toss up because, like I said, I had no clue what it was about. I figured the combination of Goldblum and Crudup had to be special, though, so I'm glad I chose it.
Yup, that's him...bloody face and all!
*deep sigh*
And Michael Stuhlbarg, who played the brother! The performances were intense and believable!
*double deep sigh*
I may need to go see this again...
We saw the matinee...then went to Caroline's that night so it was kind of a weird journey that day...
I thought everyone was very effective...I was originally a little put off by Jeff Goldblum playing what I thought was his usual staccato character, but I finally realized that it really worked in that role.
I agree with you about Jeff Goldblum. Though, he was my least favorite in it. Actually, the character who I had the least amount of sympathy for.
Wow - Pillowman and Carolines in one day? That is quite a journey!
Cookie... best up close, I think. Don't you?
You know, to catch the nuances of the performances.
That, and it's just nice to be as close as possible to Billy.
Sounds like we reawakened a little Billy Crudup fixation, Cookie? Well, he certainly isn't in this play just because of his looks...
He's not. He's brilliant in the role!
I've loved him in everything I've ever seen him in. A very talented actor.
(And, not bad to look at. Right, Cookie?!)
I guess my biggest disappointment all week was when I realized that Norbert was on vacation from Scoundrels... I liked the show, but I would have loved the extra energy that I'm sure he brings to the role. Missed him in Wicked the last time we were there, too, because he had hurt his back or something so I still haven't seen him perform.

oh, that is a shame. He really 'owns' that role! You'll just have to come back...
I've got to run. So glad to hear about your trip, and so glad you had such a wonderful time! 'See' you tomorrow...
I think I just saw a flaming Billy.
Hello everyone. I have been gone for a very long while and I miss you all but life is going great right now :)
and DGrant, darling, I've tried to PM you but it said that you were no longer accepting PMs (so how are we supposed to keep in touch hmm?)
I don't know who still reads the boards, but Boobsie and LAactress I miss the two of you also, I'd love to talk to you two again (as well as anyone on this board).
