It had better be hot, BT!
MEF, is there a way you can let these friends of yours talk to me? I can get you out of Lennon.
You could PM me some talking points, like, "Did I mention that Lennon is the worst piece of crap ever. Let's see anything else."

RE: Lennon
Is it the material or isn't Will Chase good?

It is the entire concept and direction. Staged like a summer outdoor review. I appreciate the idea of having everyone play Lennon at some point, but it suffers terrible POV because of it...especially when they bring Yoko out and she's played by one character from then on (who spoke for Lennon earlier).
Instead of actually dramatizing his life in the manner of good theatre, they narrate. Far too often. So, just when any really dramatic things can go on, you have someone pop out as narrator and start talking about it.
The two moments in the show that approach book scene-to-song status are the only affecting ones, I think.
And then there's the point. They keep coming back to "Give Peace a Chance" but it hardly seems the point of the show. So what are they saying? Give peace a chance? Or give us a chance to thoroughly confuse you?
I don't think Boy From Oz did the bio-musical script well, but they should have approached it like that. Lennon's music is infinitely more suited to shedding light on his life than Allen's was and would have actually suited a jukebox musical, advancing the plot.
Instead, it stops the show dead while someone takes center stage and wails to the rafters (Marcy Harriell, singing like a demon and about as effective as trying to remove gum from carpet through the power of positive thinking).
Oh, did I mention the direction is atrocious?
"I have no idea what to do here, so let's 'Godspell' it up and just have the whole cast sit and watch while so-and-so sings and occasionally hug one another and react in a kumbaya moment...we'll repeat this idea over and over since I have nothing fresh to bring to it."
Did any of that help?

Thanks bway...but I'm still going to see it....John was always my FAVORITE Beatle....I think he wrote better than Paul..he wrote from the heart NOT looking for a pop hit.
Bway, I think you made me WANT to see this!

Boobs, that's the problem. The best thing I can say about this show is that it has inspired me to go out and buy some John Lennon albums.
Speak to a few people who saw the show from here who are in the range to have experienced John when his music was new and I think you'll find they agree that the music is overwrought and overly-theatrical.
I understand it's a musical, but you'll see what I mean.
That said, Boooooobs, you definitely should see it as it's a piece of theatre.
Hey! Paul wrote one of my fav songs!

as long as you take a nice peppermint scrub shower after all that wound licking, BT...
bgirl, I hope I didn't give the impression that this is so spectacularly bad that it's like the next Carrie. I think it's ultimately FAR more disappointing than it is campy fun.
maybe taking the shower first would be best - then I can have pepperminty wounds! Today my wounds smell delightfully like lime, basil and mandarin. Yum!
or perhaps lemon mint?
I smell like that every day. Well, until the fall comes around...
I got the nicest smelling wounds in the mid-atlantic region thanks to you, Cookie!
I'm too lazy to read back so I'm just going to assume that "best-smelling wounds" is a good thing....
Pipster! Happy friday to you and yours ... Yes, nice smelling wounds are just fine.
Having a GREAT Friday!! My guy surprised me with a quick trip to Traverse City; we both needed a get-away so that's what we did! It's a beautiful area up here!!
Undi, have a really good time!
Hi to everyone else... and, sadly, I HAVE to tear myself away. I have way too much to do.
Catch you later, Addy.
