Just saw this tonight, and good god almighty was this just bad. First of all, there is no passion or energy from any of the actors. All of them are sleepwalking their way through the film. The screenplay basically takes Shakespeare's dialogue and hacks it to shreds. Douglas Booth's Romeo was the best part of film. Besides Paul Giamatti's Friar Laurence, Booth was the only one turning a performance with any trace of emotion or understanding of the character. He is also just drop dead gorgeous. A god. Hailee Steinfeld was completely wrong for Juliet. I don't know what else to say about her except she was terribly boring and unbelievable.
There were only two other people in the theater besides my friend and me. I have not seen any previews or anything for this, so I can see why it wouldn't be faring too well. A lot of people I have talked to do not even know there is a new film version playing. Who here has seen it, and what were your thoughts?
