I've always loved the Carpenters rendition of A Song for You (but nothing beats Donny Hathaway's rendition of that song).

Sorry, I can't seem to master the multiple links in one post thing.

Posted: 1/14/09 at 12:03pmI don't know about pointing fingers Gypsy, but I do think Karen did bear an incredible burden and I think the people who cared about her were well-intentioned but sabotaging influences. There was no one single person or circumstance that solely contributed to her illness.

Unfortunately, I can't stand the Carpenters. I can't listen to them at all. I remember hearing Sing everywhere as a child and when I was severely sick, that song and Karen's voice were part of delirious nightmares and hallucinations I suffered from a very high fever. To this day, the sound of Karen Carpenter's voice gives me the creeps.
I did watch Todd Haynes' Superstar: The Karen Carpenter Story at 4:20 years ago (as well as the Quay Brothers' Street of Crocodiles and some banned Merry Melody cartoons) and that was quite fun. Oh! And this couple showed us their stereograph photos from their trip to The Burning Man while we drank their homemade beer. That whole evening was just a blast and much less scary than the delirium I had as a child.
So...yeah. That's how I feel about The Carpenters. If I hear them now, I tense up in a strapped-to-a-chair Clockwork Orange kind of way.
