You old softie! First you want to save a movie palace and now you want to open an animal refuge. I'm delighted to hear you want to save them and not eat them just to piss people off.
Re movie palaces, for almost 20 years I criss crossed the country visiting & photographing them.In the process, I became an expert on theater architecture & theater history. I tried to save 2 but to no avail. One is still standing but a wreck where the ultimate film version of "Follies" could be shot. There are a number of books about these theaters. As a matter of fact, I actually started doing preliminary research on a book about the ROXY in NYC. I must stop procrastinating & get around to doing it. I only eat normal cuts of meat & nothing exotic

I have to say that my feelings on the cat issue are somewhat colored by the fact that I live next store to a "cat woman".
I think she has a million cats (and I think I'm underestimating that amount). The smell alone when the breeze runs from East to the West is enough to turn someone off of cats forever.
Before someone says it, “Yes, she has been turned in a number of times to Animal Control.” They come with their little cages and clean her out of most of the cat. Note I said “most” not “all”. You are allowed a certain amount of animals and she always manages to keep a female or two. Which means in about 6 months we’re right back where we started from.
If I had the money, I would offer to have those cats fixed but alas I am not that rich. I did manage to have my own animals taken care of. I don’t know why people can’t be expected to be responsible pet owners.
Well, FYI Animal Control was here yet again this week and cleaned her out. When I took my trash out a little while ago I saw 2 cats on her porch. Sigh. I wonder if they are both females.

Yeah, you better. Because nobody else is going to do it and the history will be lost. We don't care much for history in this country.
Here's one that I have been to and I love... and a website you might like if you haven't seen it.
Warner Theater

Alas, some get carried away with there love of animals. For example, to have a dog like a Great Dane in an apartment is cruel to the dog. A small dog or cat in an apartment for companionship ( especially for the sick & elderly ) or as a family pet is one thing. The woman who had all these cats was misguided as it was not fair to the cats either

I visited the theater & liked it a lot also. I visited this & a number of others when a group I used to belong to visited theaters in Connecticut & surrounding states

jrb -- I feel ya. I'm OBSESSED with cats. They all have such unique personalities and even though they need a lot of love, they're content with amusing themselves at times too. Not saying I don't love dogs, because I think they're adorable, but cats are far more intelligent and independant, yet sweet and vulnerable at the same time. I love them...
I have four cats... two live in Massachusetts with my mom and two live with me in New York. My little Lilith used to do flips and tricks and so does Coffee Bean. I think I need to put them in the circus.
Oh, speaking of cat lovers... I saw a preview for Two Brothers yesterday and HAVE to see that. Those tiger cubs reminded me of Coffee Bean and Ally (but they're the sister version... and tinier cats... but their personalities are the same)!! It looks like such a cute movie! WOO!
