Not sure what he told Oprah - but he told Tim Russert over the weekend he would consider it.
I also believe Cheney would say this because he would rather see a white woman win than a black man. Just my gut feeling.

Every time I see the name OBAMA in print, I can't help but think of you-know-who.

Voldemort?

Posted: 10/24/06 at 7:24pmThere had to be some alterior motive for Cheney to have said that. I think that there are indeed alot of people out there who HATE Hillary Clinton and he probably brought it up to scare people into voting Republican for this election...

That's what I was thinking, MJR. By convincing some people that Hillary (a much reviled woman) could very well be elected president in 2008 if the Republicans lose control of the House/Senate, he could scare them (or so he may think) into voting Republican in two weeks.

"[Cheney] said though Obama was an attractive candidate, 'I think at this stage, my initial take on him was he's been two years as a senator. I think people might want a little more experience than that, given the nature of the times we live in.'"
Yeah, Dick. Too bad Obama doesn't have the experience Dubya had when HE ran for president.

Thanks for pointing out the polarizing power of Mrs. Clinton so I didn't have to, MJR.
And yeah, I'll take Obama's experience over Bush's in 2000 any day, but the electorate won't. If they elect a black man, they'll need him to be perfect in every way. (Which means Obama had better get out of the legislative branch before he builds up too much of a voting record to be used against him.)

Posted: 10/25/06 at 2:35pmThere's also the Bill Richardson factor. Many beltway insiders have noted that he's become much more visible over the past month outside of NM including a one-on-one with Bill Maher last week. While Senator Obama is an attractive candidate, some are arguing that Governor Richardson is the perfect Democrat to prop up to take on the GOP in 08. IMO he needs a running mate that can bring the independents into the fold and allay fears of fence-straddling conservatives that he won't go soft on curbing illegal immigration due to his heritage. His dad was from Nicaragua and mom from Mexico which I'm sad to suggest could work against him in some parts of the country. Even ultraconservative GOP-mouthpiece Fred Barnes has suggested that Richardson makes a more attractive running mate for Senator Clinton than Senator Obama. I personally think that Governor Richardson with the right handlers has more potential as a presidential candidate than Mrs. Clinton but a Richardson/Obama ticket is out of the question. There’s something about Bill Richardson that is uncannily Bill Clinton-esque.

yeah, vote Richardson in '08. I started the Committee to elect Bill Richardson the other day.
I like the Richardson/Obama ticket.

Posted: 10/25/06 at 2:46pmQuestion: Why would Richardson who is Catholic not experience the same wrath as Kerry did if he took an even moderate stance on the pro-choice/pro-life debate??? NE Catholics did not give Kerry a ringing endorsement due in large part to his pro-choice position. The country desperately needs a centrist leader in the Executive Branch so I hope Richardson is up to the task. If so, he's got my vote!

Obama is an attractive candidate... in a cute way not an experienced kind of way.
I dunno what Cheney is doing. Maybe he is trying to convince NY voters Hillary is using her seat as a platform for presidency. Therefore, she is not going to focus on the current issues or be able to do her job. Hillary seems to support war unconditionally, and he likes that. For some reason she supported Bush's killing of habeas corpus. Maybe he wants her to run because in 2008 we will probably be at war with Iran and "women can't lead a country at war."
You should also note that Rupert Murdoch owner of Fox News supports Clinton. I dunno if this is because he wants or is scared she will win in 2008. He's probably with Cheney.
Hillary does not support gay rights unconditionally. She also like most Democrats & Republicans (across the board) support all Israeli Policy unconditionally. I look for her unwavering support of an invasion of Iran before Bush leaves. Watch what she says people. She is very careful in criticizing Bush's Iraq stratigery. That said she has my vote. I think she is the only chance (warts and all) to get back the presidency. She is extremely popular and her husband is untouchable.
I personally think that Hillary will run in 2008, and the Republicans will find a minority or female running mate for their presidential candidate. I definitely see this shift as something significant. Richardson is a nice guy, but there is a lot of animosity towards Latinos in this country and I'm sorry but we can't afford to lose another presidential election.
Bush has proven how important the race/minority card is in politics these days. I’ve never thought Condi attracted black or minority voters, I think she does something else. I think she makes white voters feel a sense of equality in their government. If something was amiss in the government surely a black lady would speak up. Bush must be right. Like Oprah, she is on TV and a household name. It’s like colorblind casting on Broadway; it pacifies the vast inequalities that exits. It makes Republics look like Democrats. (Dems do the same thing only are bigger hypocrites because they don’t stand up for us!)
Something totally off topic. I’m paying attention to the new Mel Gibson movie “Apocolypto.” At first, I saw this trailer and thought, well it looks arty and beautiful but who will see it? Then he said all those horrible things and was arrested. (yes he is a disgusting human being). Anyways, I saw the new trailer and it said “from the director of Passion of the Christ.” Then I realized maybe he might be targeting the Latino population who flocked to that other movie. The movie is about the end of the Mayan civilization and is probably one of the first big budget films to profile this. Will they follow? This movie seems to have little appeal to anyone else, anyways I like to see my peeps doing something together.
