Chicago is a great city, and yes we are the Second City, but in 2016 Chicago will host the Olympics!

WADR,I hope its Madrid. I went over christmas and fell in love with the city and I'm going back in May through school. I would definitely try and be there if it was chosen.
I've got nothing against Chicago though and wouldn't be too disappointed if it was selected.
ETA: But then again London is having them in 2012 so they may want to go to another continent.

I'm happy for Chicago if Chicago's happy!
I live in Vancouver and the planning for Vancouver/Whistler 2010 has become the bane of everyone's existence. The construction and traffic jams are unimaginably bad, and the IOC and local committees have alienated everyone from environmentalists to hospitality workers to public transit commuters to homeless advocates. And we're still 3 years away. I can't think of anything I'd like more than to get the heck out of my province in February 2010!
But that's just in our case...it polarized the entire city - but if Chicago wanted it, then I think it's great!

Part of my vision is new public transportation infrastructure and more retaking of the lakefront for the people of Chicago!

If it results in better transportation, I'm all for it. Otherwise, my daily commute is going to be more of a nightmare than in it is already.

What sequel? The current Chicago revival will probably still be playing on BW by then, with Abigail Breslin as Roxie.

The biggest applause of the Celebration Ralley at the Daley Center was for the Junior Senator from Illinois - Obama!
The Mayor took the opportuinity to call for more gun control and had a moment of silence for the VT victims.

As a Chicago suburbanite, I say no thank you to the Olympics. Just learning about what Barcelona had to go through to host the 1992 Olympics was enough for me to hope that Chicago never had to do the same.

Why any sane citizen of any city would want that kind of invasion I'll never know. Thank God we got eliminated from that particular horror in New York. Can you imagine? This city can barely manage a rush hour on a normal day it's so congested.

The Olympics generally wind up costing the host city a ton of money - paid for by local taxpayers

As someone who goes to school on the South Side, where the Olympics would be held, I'm for anything that can revitalize this part of Chicago, much of which is desolate.

I really would like the Olympics to be here, but by the time 2016 rolls around I probably won't be anywhere near here. I'll probably be in some other place in the country, maybe not though.

I'll be out of college by then... and hopefully not living in Chicago, though I'd come home for the games. That would be amazing. Everyone was surprised that Chicago got the US bid in the first place.

DayDreamer - I'd say in a HEARTBEAT except I'd like to be well clear of the Pacific Northwest for the entire month of February! (Heck, and January and March, if I can swing it!)

I think Chicago is a great choice for the Olympics. I swam in the Gay Games last summer and hosting that event with its 12,000 athletes plus party folk was a good dress rehearsal.
