I just saw this the other day for the first time. I was glued to the tv from the first frame to the very end. I really liked it. Alot. wonderful performances, brilliant direction, and that last 30 minutes of the movie was so intensely draining. Great film, and I really wish now that I had seen it on the big screen.
Last year's finest film, hands down.
One of the best films I have seen in a long time. Brilliant.

Should have won every single Oscar last year, especially over that silly THE DEPARTED. Easily the best film of that year. Repeat viewings on DVD have only increased my respect for it. Alfonso Cuaron is probably the best director currently out there.
So glad to see this thread resurface. I, too, bought the DVD, and when I watch it, I never see it as a downer, as some suggest. Cuaron is the consummate humanist, and his inate love of people, warts, eyeballs, feathers and all (as my mother used to say) is what makes his portraits of their struggles true art. Yes, this dark film says more about the world -- and hope -- than the ugly and cynical DEPARTED ever could.
I loved this film. The editing was superb and the whole film was riveting. Though I do think The Departed was also extraordinary.

Totally agree, though The Departed was my favorite film last year. This was a close second in my favorites list. Just an incredible film.
I agree it should've won...something major. If it got anything, I forgot.

I much preferred CHILDREN OF MEN to THE DEPARTED. THE DEPARTED had things going for it, to be sure, but I felt it just sank under its own weight: way way way too long, and a badly over the top performance from Nicholson. Dicaprio and Damon were terrific, though.
