I have a question...My career choice is to become a choreographer (for theatre, obviously). My questions is this; what do I major in to do this? I feel so dumb when it comes to college b/c I know pretty much nothing about it. I know where I want to go and what I want to end up doing. However, when people ask me "what do you want to go to college for" I don't nkow what to say. Would I say that I'm going to major in music theatre? Help!
You would probably major in Theatre or Dance, and minor in the other... or have a Theatre or Dance major with a concentration in Choreography. That's the kind of thing you'll need to ask individual colleges... it kind of depends on the place.
Thank ya.

I really don't think there is too much training for a choreographer. You would most likely major in dance...and develop the career of a choreographer on your own.
Yeah you would want to major in dance I would believe. At my school, the dance program has actual choreography technique classes.
Winokur_Fam: That's neat you want to be a choreographer! I enjoy every time I've had the opportunity! Majoring in Dance would definitely help. Also at my school there is Dance Pedagogy...which is how to teach dance, assuming you'd get a certificate of some sort! I'm a freshmen so...don't know to much about that program. I've choreographed some ballets and 2 musicals: West Side Story and Grease! I love it when you can say..."It's my own work!" Ah...I'm attending Point Park University in Pittsburgh. A well-known school for dance. Well, I've seen you've gotten good advice already! Good luck!
