Chris Pine says the U.S. should have done more in the run-up to the Sochi Olympics to protest Russia's anti-gay legislation, which he calls "clearly awful, archaic, hostile nonsense."
"I think we should do more than just send gay Olympians there," the 33-year-old actor said in an interview while promoting his film "Jack Ryan: Shadow Recruit." 'What's happening there in terms of gay rights or the lack of it is extraordinary and awful."

And this is why I need to marry him. He is clearly awesome
Chris Pine is awesome! Him and Zach would make a great couple!
“I remember feeling, as I got to know Chris more, so impressed by his intelligence, which isn’t always the case with such a traditional leading man,” Quinto said. “I remember being pleasantly, not surprised, but …”
“You thought I was just a dumb blond,” Pine interrupted. “Actually, I have many more Spockian qualities than I do Kirkian qualities. We were two peas in a pod,” he said of Quinto, “in that we think about things way more than we should. We analyze.” [ x ]
Not that it matters, but is Chris Pine gay? (Just curious)
Also, he seems to forget that there are places in the US that EMBRACE Russia's laws-we're not as progressive as lots of other countries. (Imagine-there are ENTIRE COUNTRIES in Europe where marriage equality is a complete reality.)
I still think it's great that he's speaking out against the atrocious laws of oppression in Russia. It's brave and admirable. However, trying to do anything could lead to retaliation at home and abroad. (The safety of the athletes and others needs to be considered, too.)

You cannot compare our domestic pockets of homophobia and bigotry to an entire country condoning, and carrying out, violence against homosexuals. Sorry. Our country is more than "progressive" on these issues when stacked up against Russia (that being the important qualifier).
Well, stacked against Russia, lots of countries look progressive. I'm just pointing out that the U.S. is far from the world leader when it comes to this policy. And there are parts of the U.S. where the violence against homosexuals is CONDONED.

No, he's been linked to a list of beauties. Which sadly puts me out of the running for that proposal.
"You cannot compare our domestic pockets of homophobia and bigotry to an entire country condoning, and carrying out, violence against homosexuals."
Well, that's a sweeping generalization of the entire country, which I know you know is not true.

TD, the government instituted these anti-homosexuality laws. Whether the people of Russia like it or not, the government represents the "country" as a whole. It's a generalization that I have no problem making. Of course there are groups of Russians who do not condone or support it, but that number is few and far between those who do.

I loved them in the Irish version of STAR TREK!

Great, because we all know how generalizing anything works out.
I love Chris Pine even more.
Chris Pine was just marvelous in the Lieutenant of Inishmore at the Mark Taper Forum 3 or 4 seasons ago. The production, which also starred a total dish who turned out to be Alan Alda's nephew, was great fun. I was a little taken aback at how tiny Chris Pine was in person, though. Such a slight man and teeny, tiny feet. But he sure knew how to hold a pistol.
whatta mighty good man (yes, he is)
