Christian Coalition: Gays Should Wear Warning Labels

(New York City) The leader of a conservative Christian lobby group suggests that gays should be required to wear warning labels.

"We put warning labels on cigarette packs because we know that smoking takes one to two years off the average life span, yet we 'celebrate' a lifestyle that we know spreads every kind of sexually transmitted disease and takes at least 20 years off the average life span according to the 2005 issue of the revered scientific journal Psychological Reports," said Rev. Bill Banuchi, executive director of the New York Christian Coalition.
The journal regularly publishes articles described by many mainstream psychologists as misleading and faulty. The homosexuality morbidity study was conducted by the conservative anti-gay Family Research Institute.

Banuchi called LGBT Pride celebrations held in New Paltz, north of New York City, and other areas of the country on the weekend "sad".

He called on people to "pray for those who are deceived by the lies of popular culture, who are caught up in a destructive lifestyle, and for the children who are being zealously evangelized by radical homosexuals."

It is not the first time it has been suggested gays have labels. In Nazi Germany gays were forced to wear the pink triangle to differentiate them from other internees at concentration camps.
But, while, Banuchi was denouncing homosexuality, 300,000 people were celebrating gay Pride in West Hollywood, California, nearly half a million in Boston, and 100,00 in Salt Lake City this weekend.

In West Hollywood, crowds lined Santa Monica Boulevard for the 35th annual Pride Parade. But, this year's choice of grand marshals did not make everyone in the crowd happy. Christopher Street West, which organizes Weho's Pride festival selected Paris Hilton and her mother, Kathy to host the parade.

"I just don't know what anybody was thinking of. My jaw dropped when I heard it," Dan Berkowitz, a member of the West Hollywood Lesbian and Gay Advisory Board, told the West Hollywood Independent. "I'm sure she is a very nice girl and her mother is a very nice woman, but what they have to do with gay pride in West Hollywood or anywhere else is utterly beyond me."
Christopher Street West defends its choice of a heterosexual daughter and mom saying Paris has agreed to speak out on LGBT issues including gay marriage.

In Boston, the Pride Parade marched from the South End to Boston Common on Saturday. A number of local politicians were on hand, but two were noticeably missing. Republican Gov. Mitt Romney, who opposed same-sex marriage and continues to block out of state gay couples from marrying in the state, was in Detroit at his high school reunion. Democratic Attorney General Thomas F. Reilly also skipped the parade.

Reilly who says he supports gay marriage and opposes a proposed amendment to ban it is seeking his party's nod to run for governor. The other declared candidate for the Democratic nomination, Deval Patrick, attended Pride events.
In Salt Lake City, the annual Pride Parade saw record crowds. Organizers say the parade helped the community develop a renewed sense of purpose following last year's bitter fighter over a constitutional amendment which bans same-sex marriage in the state.

Gays also celebrated Pride in Washington, DC and nearly a dozen other communities.

But we do---Gucci, Dolce and Gabbana, Versace...

Don't be surprised that there are many AMERICANS who would like to see homosexuality as a felony worthy of the death penalty. LITERALLY.

"Takes 20 years off the average life-span" Tell that to the charming gay couple who live next door to my best friend. They have been together 50 years and are in excellent health despite their gay lifestyle and being in their 80's. They still travel together all over the world.

Perhaps the most disturbing part of this article is: "...Paris has agreed to speak out on LGBT issues including gay marriage."

Ugh. What? No coherent person was available?

Can't you hear her? "Wow. Gay Marriage. That's like...hot."

and I think members of the Christian Coalition should have to wear warning labels.

There's always room for pathos - and jazz hands.

That's ridiuculous. Just so you all know, the Christian Coalition is slightly wacked and, despite what it may think of itself, doesn't speak for the majority of Christians. I'd be one the the majority it doesn't speak for. That said, I think the writer did blow Rev. Banuchi's comments out of proportion. I doubt he meant it literally, but was instead attempting to make a point.

Yeah, cause warning labels worked so well with the Jews.

"The Diary of Ann Drew"

"The Spectacle has, indeed, an emotional attraction of its own, but, of all the parts, it is the least artistic, and connected least with the art of poetry. For the power of Tragedy, we may be sure, is felt even apart from representation and actors. Besides, the production of spectacular effects depends more on the art of the stage machinist than on that of the poet."

Hook, I wish the "Christian" Coalition would interview you. You need to get that statement you just made into print. Those "Christians" are scary.

I personally find it VERY funny that Christians are not supposed to judge ppl. Yet look at what they are doing! OH! But wait min., because of who they are, they can do that.*rolls eyes*

Btw, I'm Christian AND gay and mighty proud of it, so I didnt mean that towards all christians, I just meant the Christian Coalition

If homosexuality takes 20 years on average off one's lifespan, maybe it's because of the stress (and yes, suicide) caused by assholes and pretenders to Christianity like these.

Fosse, not ALL Christians are like that. Several on this board, for example, including moi, who have expressed disgust at such hateful viewpoints. Being a Christian doesn't make me perfect, and it *certainly* doesn't give me any sort of qualification to judge others, least of all the sweet gay boys who I go shopping with on Saturday afternoons and save me from the horrors of toenail polish that will clash with my skin tone.

Got your edit... cool, cool. Kisses to a fabulous gay boy.

I'm a Christian as defined by my belief in Jesus Christ, but I'm also one of the Christians who is NOT represented by the Christian Coalition, the Family Research Council or any of the other like-minded groups. Jesus said "I give you a new commandment: to love each other as I have loved you."
Nope, I don't see any call for warning labels there.

I know this is mean, but this makes me wish the Christian Coalition people would wear labels themselves. Then I could save my time discussing stuff with them, because I would know I wouldn't be able to have any rational dialogue.

Oh God. Something else to add to my ever long list about the stupid things Americans do.

I've gone up to people who are extremely hateful and homophobic and told them, "I think you just need a good lesbian to give you a good hug," then given the most crushing hug ever. I'm not a lesbian, but it always freaks them out. It's quicker than trying to argue with them, and horrifies them more.

Can I have a faux-lesbian hug too?!

I have a couple ideas of where these people can stick those labels...right next to the yellow badge where it says Juden.

I forgot that only gays spread STDs, which straight people and drug users are immune to. Silly me.

I wonder what Shelley Winters would say? Ok...that's weird...but it popped into my head. I have nothing constructive to add to this stupidity.
