Posted: 12/9/06 at 12:57amWhat are some cliche phrases as of late that make you cringe upon their very utterance? The kind of phrase that always comes from the offbeat lass whom everyone feels obliged to invite to the soiree: The dude that might in fact have the word Douche bag tatooed on his forehead. For example: years after the commercial's initial airing during the Superbowl, I know this one guy who still genuinely says wassuuuuuup when he enters a room or calls any one of my friends or myself.

"That's HOT!"
Besides the fact that the inherent judgement is obscene, the person it's associated with is abhorrent in the extreme.

"spot on"
Somebody else pointed it out and every time I read it now it drives me up the wall. Just more recombinant lingo that makes its way at least once into every review thread on here.

"Pretty much anything Namo says. Unoriginal."
You're kidding, right? Like what he says or don't, the fact is he's one of the VERY FEW around here who post anything even remotely resembling thought that isn't cut and pasted.
Offensive if you don't have an open mind or enough awareness? Sure. Unoriginal? Hardly.

Posted: 12/9/06 at 2:15amWhen I used the term 'awareness,' the added qualifier 'self' was nowhere in evidence. The fact that you took it in that direction would lead me to think there's truth in your OWN assessment.

More genius from the Zen DG. So true of many. Particularly true of Stagemanager2!

"Not gonna lie."
Is it really necessary to say, for example, "I'm hungry, not gonna lie"? Last I checked, I never accused you of not being truthful about your hunger. Drives me nuts!

Just assume that when they don't say that phrase, they're lying.
Along the same lines, it'd be great if nobody ever repeated the phrase "that's what I'm talkin' about" ever again.

"Irregardless"
"Whole entire"
"Play by ear"
"Tell me why..." (As in, "Tell me why I woke up this morning and stubbed my toe." It's not even said as a question!!)
I remember days
Or at least I try
But as years go by
They're sort of haze
And the bluest ink
Isn't really sky
And at times I think
I would gladly die
For a day of sky

Posted: 12/10/06 at 1:02pmI hate when people say "man." "What's up, man?" Why is that needed? Yes, I can see that person is a man. I think they know they're men. Same with "dude."
