Hrmmm, well it *looks* absolutely spectacular anyway, but I wouldn't expect anything else from a movie with some parts directed by Tim Tykwer and some by the Wachowski Brothers, and actually this is a case of a film perhaps benefitting from two different director teams (though, from the book anyway, I'm curious who got which part--Tykwer is a bit less interested in sci fi, but his style from Run Lola Run does make me think of some of the dystopian Korea parts of the book).
I *loved* the book. And it seems nearly impossible to film, though it looks like the film probably cuts back and forth between all the segments instead of telling them basically one by one and then going back to the beginning, the way the novel did, which I suppose makes sense for a film (then again, trailers are choppy so I may be reading too much into that). One problem is Tykwer, and even more so (IMHO) the Wachowski's aren't always the best at narrative, which is pretty important here (and by saying not always the best, I'm being kind ). It makes me think a little bit about the last time a largely German funded, big budgeted (and I believe this is the most expensive film in Germany history), English language adaptation of a literary favorite that seemed impossible to film was done, by Tykwer, with Perfume: Portrait of a Murderer. It was a gorgeous movie, but the script never worked for me and ultimately it felt a bit empty (that said, I actually found the novel to ultimately feel kinda empty too--something I didn't feel with Cloud Atlas, so perhaps it's unfair to judge).
Great cast (Tom Hanks aside ).

Looks fantastic. Hope it's as wonderful as the novel.

As long as they don't turn it into Crash/Babel twaddle about how we're all connected or whatever.
The beginning of the trailer was wonderful - the cuts from one text to the next. The rest looks spectacular, visually speaking, but who the hell knows how it'll all fit together.
Half way into the trailer I was thinking this oing to be a hot mess, but by the end was really excited to see the whole thing.
Funny, I got bored at the halfway point and decided it is not something I would venture out to see. Tired of CGI Sci Fi.
Unless they really change the novel, that should be a significantly smaller part of the movie (the Dystopian Korea stuff) then implied. I thought maybe they were going for the Matrix crowd or something since those directors are involved (which doesm, story wise, worry me). The movie is insanely expensive for what is--again at least the book--very much not a big effects story, so I suspect they're trying to play up that epic-nature, to bring in audiences. I hope.
