Hi everyone! I am having trouble finding pieces for my college auditions. I'm looking for two contrasting pre-1965 pieces and one uptempo contemporary (I already have "Times Like This" from Lucky Stiff). I'm a tall, brunette soprano with a high mix. My upper range needs a lot of work, so I tend to avoid stuff of a "Glitter and be Gay" or "Much More" nature. I'm definitely a character over an ingenue. I'm looking at either "Cockeyed Optimist" or "Wonderful Guy" from South Pacific and "It's a Perfect Relationship" from "Bells are Ringing." I love anything with a really classic Tin Pan Alley sound, so I'd love something like a Gershwin or a Kern ballad. Or a Porter song that isn't overdone. Thanks in advance for your help!

For your uptempo contemporary, the first thing that came to mind was "Ireland" from Legally Blonde. As for your pre-1965 choices, maybe "Let's Call The Whole Thing Off" from Shall We Dance as an uptempo. A good contrasting song to that would be "The Party's Over" from Bells Are Ringing even though it's ingenue-ish because a good character ballad is hard to find and this was the least typical ingenue ballad I could find.
Thank you! I will definitely be looking at "The Party's Over." I love it!
