OK, so here is the story. CAP21 is still my number one choice, but I am so depressed thinking about it. The thing is someone said 1/3 of the incoming class is taken from early decision kids. I heard there are 20 guys about. So that is 7 guys they except out of the early decision applicants. My estimate is at least 300 guys are auditioning early. My thing is how many of them have connections and/or are more talented than I am. I am not sure if I should even go for it and waste my early decision. I know I would regret it if I did that, but I am not sure now. Should I use my early decision on a less difficult school? First of all, you don't HAVE to do early decision anywhere if you don't really want to go to that school. If you do early decision, ask yourself that if you got accepted to all the schools you applied for if the one you chose to do ED with is the one you'd definitely pick to go to. Would you feel bad if you applied ED somewhere other than NYU and then ended up getting into both the other school and NYU, but then couldn't say no to the first school? Sorry if this is confusing. Just don't feel pressured into applying ED anywhere unless you feel confident that's where you definitely want to be over the other schools you're applying to.

Well, if NYU is really your first choice, go for it - it can't hurt. If CAP21 is your top, top choice, then it would make sense to use that for your ED - b/c it can only help you! Also, there are VERY, VERY few BFA programs that have ED...NYU is one of the only "top" programs that offers ED for MT BFA.

if NYU is your #1 choice and you are absolutely sure you want to go there (and have gone on a tisch-specific tour, maybe spent a night, talked to students/profs, etc.)then there is no reason you shouldn't do ED.

what's the best that could happen? you get into your first choice school and you don't have to do the whole big decision stressing in april/may.

what the worst that could happen? you don't get in. but that could happen even if you didn't do ED.

and yeah, it's possible that they might have more connections and/or be more talented than you are...but that's possible anywhere. you also have to remember that NYU has very high academic standards that some of them may not come close to meeting.

if you love NYU THHAAAATTTTT much, just do it!! take a risk!!!!! see what happens!!!!!

Alright thanks so much, EVERYONE. Tisch/CAP21 is my #1 choice school and I will shoot for it. I hope to make it and I will let everyone know what happens. For right now I need to prepare for the auditions. Wish me luck and any other statistics or ideas about making it into CAP21. How many guys make it in out of early admission applicants? (etc) Anything that will make me happier about this coming experience. Let me know...thanks for dealing with such a worrying guy. Sorry you had to.

oh mrfalytoe, i like you already just because you're such a nice sort of guy....

in terms of stats about CAP21 specifically, the NYU admissions people can't even give them to you further than what you've seen (see the thread that i posted called CAP21/NYU information).
