So.
I'm an average student with a 3.2 and LOADS of extra circulars and community service, along with college credits on the way.
But,I heard of all of the schools with WONDERFUL MT programs, which I want more than anything, but they are all HIGHLY selective.
So---What are chances to getting into these Top Schools as an MT?
I've been looking into Western Michigan,Millikin,Baldwin-Wallace,CCM ,Boston and U of Michigan...
Schools like Michigan make me wonder.

I'll be honest with you..CCM, BoCo and U Mich don't care about grades and they are 3 of the most selective schools in the country. If you have the talent and your grades are decent (or maybe less than) they'll accept you. Your SAT scores are like a La Duca with a broken heel..they just don't care. hahahah
But really though...I think around 1500 people auditioned for BoCo this year and only about 40 make up the incoming class. CCM and U Mich I'm SURE get the same amount of auditioners and they accept even less. 17-23 incoming.

Yeah.
Well thanks.
I was hoping for an answer along the lines.
I'm definitely trying out for U of M then ,since I live in MI.
And,I'm hoping my Arts School Education has prepared me.
Any other colleges you can suggest?

The best advice I can give you is to really sit down and think about what you want in a program- what helps you, what kind of people who want, how many people, what kind of vocal training you want (esp. if you have been trained classically, and you want to keep that) and also whether you want a BA, BFA or a BM. Even though there's buzz about CCM, Umich, and BoCo, and they're great programs...it's really what you make of it and its worth looking into less renowned programs that you think you'll succeed in, and are maybe less competitive.
Slash, audition at local schools. The really dumb thing I did was audition at 1 school in my homestate and then spread everything else across the country. That was straight up dumb. Because now I'm going to miss my dogs.

Don't let the numbers stop you from auditioning! I went to an Arts HS as well, you DEFINITELY have a better chance than others. BoCo, of all schools, accepts a good amount of (talented) students. My class is the biggest, because we have a lot of transfers, it started at 71 and now it at 58.
Check out Webster, Roosevelt CCPA, University of Northern Colorado, Viterbo and Emerson also

Well,thank you!
I really appreciate everything!
I hope that the arts school thing really does help, since my theatre teacher seems to think I cannot do a simply thing.
I do plan on Auditioning for quite a few programs.
I think I'll probably end up settling somewhere semi-competitive.
I was just wondering if they grades really matter.
And,I'll look at all those other programs!
Now,I just have to drop the weight!

Posted: 3/7/09 at 1:18pmYour grades are not that bad. That is above Michigan's pre screening cut off, at least, and people have been admitted into both Steinhardt and Tisch at NYU with GPAs the same as yours if not lower.
