Okay guys, what colleges do you currently attend or have attended in the past, and what was/is your major?
And if you're not yet in college, where do you plan on applying?
i am in my last year ("professional year" as they call it in our major) at SUNY Fredonia. my major is childhood education with a middle school extension and concentration in social studies. long title, but yeah, thats it. however, i'm not at college this year because i'm student teaching at home in an AMAZING program that really is (and i'm not just aying it) the best edu program around... and only 25 of us do it. i'm student teaching in a 6th grade social studies class, but also have a language arts class, and i love it so much. also taking all 6 of my methods classes on top of it (everyone else does 3 methods at a time and student teaching at a different time), so it is VERY intense. of course i'm probably not making any sense to any of you, but all you need to know is that i love it and i can't wait till i have my own classroom
My choice of colleges goes as follows (in order)
1. NYU
2. Columbia
3. University of Illinois at urbana
4. Northwestern Illinois
5. University of Illinois in chicago
6. Northern Illinois
I dont know for sure what i want to major in yet. Either something in business, or something to do with theatre.
hmm maybe company manager for a show??

CURRENT COLLEGE- Marymount Manhattan
MAJOR- Theatre Production & Management
MINOR- Drama Education

Wagner College, Arts Admin major with a concentration in theatre, I'm a junior. After that, hopefully CTI, followed by either an MFA at CUNY Brooklyn or an EMBA from Hartford's Barney School. Mooooore schooooool. And chances are, i'll get halfway through that and decide to go for *more*.
I really wish I knew that I was going to decide on being a theatre major because I would have went to a better school, because my school has a very sucky theatre program. Originally I was a history major and CSU has a real good history program but I really wish I went to a better college now.
I always want to remind people that just because Harvards or Yales may be rated the best in the nation overall, they may not be the school to go to for your major. You really should take into account what kind of education you are looking for and how individual programs are rated nationally along with how they are set up. If a program is rated great but works completely different than the way you best learn you are probably better off going to a school where they cater to your needs better. I go to Ball State University in Indiana. If you told me early in high school I would be going to Ball State I would not have believed you. State schools have a bad reputation in that way. When I went to choose schools I applied to both IU and Ball State and chose Ball State over IU because it was a better fit for me and I do not regret it. I have found Ball State to be a much better school than I realized. Especially in the areas I was interested in. It isn't perfect by any means, but what school is? I am not trying to advertise Ball State but keep in mind that you need to find the college that fits you not the college that the rest of the world says are the only schols you can go to and be successful. I am not saying not to strive for excellence, but I am saying that to be excellent takes more than just going to an Ivy League school.

Ivies are horribly overrated. I didn't bother applying to them because first of all, they were a bit of a reach for me, and second, I knew they'd be full of students who went there for the name and the prestige rather than the actual merits of the education there. Not exactly my sort of people. And then there's the grade inflation and the class sizes.
Don't get me wrong- the Ivies are fine educational institutions. But if you want the most rigorous classes and to be treated like a human being even if you're an undergrad, there are several excellent liberal arts and technical colleges that are much better choices. The Ivies are awesome for their grad programs, though.

Am I the only person not in a theatre major? LOL
I'm at Simon Fraser University (that's in Vancouver, Canada, which is that big land mass north of America, FYI. ), majoring in Criminology with a specialization in law and forensics, and a minor in Sociology.
How much does it cost for an average year in a private US university as a local??
since i had to have surgery in the fall i couldn't go to school for my freshman fall semester. next semester i will be forced by my mother to go to either the University of Kansas or the University of Texas. i don't want to, but apparently i'm not responsible to live out of the eyesight of relitives. if i "prove myself" in the spring, i will be permitted to go to either Marymount Manhattan or Pace (i eventually want to transfer to nyu, family alma mater (sp?), although i might find i like the other schools just fine). i have NO CLUE what my major is going to be- playwriting, directing, film, psychology, song writing, minors in religion, anthropolgy, philosophy? i'm a compass in the burmuda triangle, baby. give me a direction!
edit: emcee, you're at barnard? i've been getting info from them but i can't decide if i'm into it or not. it's not too pretentious, is it? and shbrt alley- what year are you at nyu? my friend lindsey just graduated from the tisch so you might know her.

The "Institutes" I attended in chronological order:
Baldwin Wallace College - Music Education major
University of Cincinnati College Conservatory of Music - Musical Theatre major, Christian Ministry minor
Ohio State University (where my degree actually comes from) - Musical Theatre and Philosophy majors, Christian Ministry and Opera Performance minors
I wouldn't recommend Philosophy, although I'm sure a lot of ppl would disagree with me. I've taken a few phil classes and I find it's something I prefer learning by myself, on my own time, and I don't like sitting and listening to someone lecture about it. I don't think you learn as much that way. Just MHO.
well honey, I already got my degree so....it's a bit late for me.
It's okay sweetie. With my future law degree, you'll be the Mr. Mom and I'll be the breadwinner anyway.
I'll remember that when I'm a famous operatic counter-tenor.
