Computer Question

I keep getting alerts from Antivirus 360 that my computer is infected. I've run my Trend Security software and no viruses have been detected, yet I this message from Antivirus keeps popping up. I thought it was an Internet Explorer issue, but the same thing keeps happening while in Firefox.

Do I believe the Antivirus 360 message and download their security software or are they the problem? I tried calling Trend, but they're closed for the day.

I wish I could help you, Dottie. I hadn't heard about it until I read your note and did some googling. Apparently Antivirus 360 is malware that disguises itself to look like a virus protector. It's also known to deliver false positive messages of viral infection in order to get the user to buy software to clear it. There are a number of free programs out there that will clean it off your system but I'm thinking that it might be wise to check it out first. You don't want to be adding to your problems.

Anyone else out there in BWW land have this problem?

Thanks, that's what I figured. It kind of looks like the MSN logo, but there was something very suspicious about it (especially asking for credit card info). I didn't sign up as I already have antivirus software. Now I have to figure out how to remove it from my machine.

Check with your existing anti-virus software; they might have an update or something to take care of it.

Try running Ad-Aware and Spybot Search and Destroy to get rid of possible malware, and downloading AVG Free Edition for a free anti-virus scan.

It's definitely malware. Whenever I try running my anti-virus program it shuts down. I was even running a "house call" and it was almost done, and then it shut down. Doesn't look good. I'll see what my IT people at work tell me how I can get rid of this.

Plum, thank you!!! I downloaded Spyzilla via Spybot Search and Destroy and it got rid of the "Antivirus 360" malware.
