Posted: 6/9/14 at 12:01pmShe hasn’t been around here much of late, but many of you longstanding members may remember aspiringactress for, among other things, her interesting and insightful posts that belied her chronological age (I think she was in 8th grade when she started posting here), her love of most things Sondheim and for starting such threads as the, to paraphrase, “who would you actually pay to hear read the phone book?” thread. In addition to all that, I know her as the very best daughter a mother could ever hope to have. Her aspirations, but not her love of theater, have changed, and she’s now a brilliant director (other people, who are not her mother, think so too…), having directed such works as Woyzeck, The Winter’s Tale, The Fantasticks and The Cherry Orchard, just to name a few, over the last four years. I’m now outing myself, as she doesn’t know that, on here, I am her mother, but I wanted to congratulate her, and thank the many of you who, unknowingly, really helped shape her growth and maturity as an artist, and the trajectory of her life, by showing her that a life and career in the theater is possible and thus allowing her to create one, and by allowing her to hone and explore her passion and generally treating her with kindness and respect. You helped her dare to dream big, and there’s no stopping her now. If anyone wants to see her resume, including some beautiful production photos, please PM me, and I’ll pass on that information … if I think it’s a good idea.

Posted: 6/9/14 at 7:22pmI'm a college student as well (writer, though, not performer), and it's lovely to hear of other young people who are doing the terrifying but wonderful thing of following a difficult dream. And I know I'd never have had the guts to come back to the arts after a detour towards law if it hadn't been for the support of my parents. IAWIA, she's lucky to have such a supportive and proud mom! Congrats to her!
