Great overview of the 1973 cult movie musical.
Cool Cinema Trash takes you to a LOST HORIZON

Love it. Love it. Love it.
Probably my favorite in the "Bad Movies We Love" category.
Thanks for posting these, RB!

Retro, I love that Cinema Trash site. Thanks for posting. I did not know about it.
I was 13 when Lost Horizon opened and I shouldn't admit this but I LOVED it!! I used to play the soundtrack over and over again. I haven't seen it since but would love to. Camp heaven!
Favorite line from Cinema Trash synopsis: Once everyone has changed into their caftans, they enjoy dinner and a floor show.

nmartin---I was only a couple of years younger than you, and I wore that soundtrack out too!
I staged all the musical numbers in my bedroom. I would draw many pictures of Shangri-La. I couldn't wait to move to Tibet and live there.
And I was obsessed with Olivia Hussey turning into a 100-year-old lady, too. It freaked me out and fascinated me.

I had just finished watching it this morning and of course I had to start listening to the soundtrack immediately after it finished. Then I get on the 'net and start "Googling" it. I just had to share!

Oh, Miss Hussey, why did you yearn for something else when you had Shangri-La?!
You can't beat this good stuff!
I just went back to that site and read the synopsis for another one of my favorites, little Betty Perske of Brooklyn starring in The Fan. What a picture!

Thank you for the Cool Cinema Trash website. I'm embarassed at how many of these movies I've seen!
Ah, THE FAN.

I love that web site's take on Lost Horizon, this being my favorite:
While on a picnic with the teacher of his dreams, Finch thinks the song "I Might Frighten Her Away." Hilariously, Ullmann joins him and they think a duet together.
And of course, this one:
Kennedy is so inspired by Kellerman's floppy dancing that he engineers a public water project.

The best part is that the writer manages to be funny and accurate without being snarky or "better" than the movie.
It's a very entertaining synopsis, and the whole site is great as well!

This quote regarding the "Life is a Circle" number made me laugh out loud:
"the entire number unravels like a drugged out version of The Sound of Music"

Okay, sometimes scrounging around YouTube is scary...
Especially if you combine it with searching for "Lost Horizon."

EDIT: Actually, it's pretty damn funny and it made me smile a lot.

Wow Best12, that was awesome! Is that bloody Amsterdam???? Oh, well. The movie was more popular abroad, so...
EDIT: And I think the gap-toothed guy is kinda cute.

I'm pretty sure it's Amsterdam. And the guys look like they barely speak English.
But they're having so much fun in this! And it was well shot and thought-out. Goofy as it is.
And I have to admit... I really like that song. Always have.

Best, you're right about the tone of the writer. He seems to have a certain affection for the movies. God knows I do. In my memory Lost Horizon was a HUGE hit!

Diana Ross & Marvin Gaye also recorded that song ("The Things I Will Not Miss") on their duet album.

Posted: 1/18/08 at 2:04pmAh, God bless Lost Horizon! It is still fun to watch, even if it's bad! At least it's entertaining. :) "The world is a circle without a begining!" But dear Liv, why, oh why!

Posted: 1/18/08 at 2:26pmYes. Liv. So compelling in her Swedish movies and so, so irritating in her English-speaking roles.

They were all A-list stars!
And they all crashed into that mountain and killed many a career.
I'd love a remake. Just as huge an overbloated, with all A-listers!
