Ah, victim-blaming. It hardly took any time at all!
It doesn't matter what kind of girl she was - it doesn't matter if she was an "ideal" little blonde-haired virgin victim or if she was a veteran hooker so intoxicated at the time of the crime she didn't know her own name. Those men gang-raped her. End of story.

So, what kind of girl is going to go get drunk right before she's about to be picked up by her father?
I can't say for sure but I have to doubt getting drunk was ever her intention. She was approached by someone she knew and was invited to join them. Perhaps she thought she was just going to pass some time with some kids she knew while waiting for her dad. As far as I know it has not been determined if she was drunk or drugged. Based on the articles so far I'm really feeling as if some sort of date rape drug was involved.

Plum,
I'm not BLAMING her, I'm just asking a question...
Why would she join a group of people drinking and have some herself, if her father was going to be there at any time to pick her up? Don't you think any normal kid would have said, "Sure I'll sit with you, but I shouldn't have anything to drink because my Dad will be here any minute and I'll smell like alcohol."
Something just doesn't add up.

Yes, Diva, I read the article, and when I did, it ended with the words:
"Manuel Ortega, 19, was arrested at the scene and was being held on $800,000 bail for investigation of rape and robbery. He is not a student at the school". Perhaps my computer loaded too slowly. Hence my words "perhaps I missed something".
Otherwise, I'm with Plum. What difference does it make whether she was drunk or not?
"Something just doesn't add up".
I honestly don't know what you mean by this.I understand you're "just asking a question", but what sort of answer do you expect to get that could possibly make any difference? We don't have all the facts, but we do know that the girl was repeatedly assaulted for hours to the degree she was taken away in critical condition. What kind of math adds up to that being remotely justifiable - because she was drunk? And what is "any normal kid"? Once again, I'll ask how many here had a drink at 15, and how many paid so high a price for it?
At best, it's like a horrible version of Last Exit to Brooklyn.
"Isnt this the plot for The Accused"?
Doodle, the plot of The Accused was based on the story that Stagemanager 2 told, the woman in Bedford MA, and as I mentioned, her story didn't end quite as well as her movie's counterpart's did. They changed the pool table to a pinball machine, and a few years after the trial, the woman was killed in a car crash, by many considered to be suicide.

"Otherwise, I'm with Plum. What difference does it make whether she was drunk or not?"
Plum said I was blaming the victim, I'm not. It doesn't make any difference if she was drunk or not. It was a horrible thing to happen to anyone.
I just wondered why any kid would want to drink right before her parents are picking her up.

I saw your post, Eris.
"Why would she join a group of people drinking and have some herself, if her father was going to be there at any time to pick her up? Don't you think any normal kid would have said, "Sure I'll sit with you, but I shouldn't have anything to drink because my Dad will be here any minute and I'll smell like alcohol."

Diva, I understand your wanting to make sense of this, but don't you see how the way you've been phrasing things sound like blaming the victim? Fifteen year-old kids do stupid things sometimes, and your saying "Something doesn't add up" implies that there's more to the story than we've been told - but what could there be that we haven't been told that could possibly matter, given the outcome? What difference could it possibly make? Others (Stockard, I think) have also told you that sometimes 15 year-olds don't always think so clearly. What kind of answer are you looking for? Did you never make mistakes at that age?

"Or they didn't feel compelled to help because the victim wasn't in their clique."
Talk about blaming the vicitm...
