What? Is there a problem with your room, Nursie? Looking for more extravagant accomodations?
I'm looking for anyplace in the city. Extravagant or not.
Extravagant is preferable though, right Matt?
At this point, I'll settle for a lot less.

Matt, you can sleep on my couch in my new fabulous apartment when I move!
Daisy, it's not nice to brag.
Daisy, don't you need to check with your new fabulous roommate before you offer up your fabulous couch?

Well, I didn't think she'd mind since she is quite fond of the Mattness.
And Mattybear, I wasn't bragging... I was trying to give you a place to sleep!!!

Isnt' Jailyard still there????
Jailyard won't want to hang where she's moving. Not quite as convenient as her current pad.
Where's the new pad?
So, New Yorkers, what would you say would be a good nest egg for someone coming to NY? With no job, no set-up apartment, some contacts, but not alot of friends...$6000?
I think that is a good amount to have in your savings to move. My roomies and I budgeted and succeeded with $5000 each--and that also covered moving truck costs across country.
I'm not looking to burst anyone's bubble, and the truth of the matter is you're going to do exactly what you want to do anyway, but I've had it with New York! I've lived here all my life, and frankly, I'm ready to move on. The cost of living is through the roof, to the point of being stupid. If you're looking to buy, the average price for a one-bedroom apartment is $1 million. The job market is abysmal! The weather sucks; too sticky and humid in the summer, and too frigid in the winter. The city is dirty and overrun with rats! And I really don't think it's a good city to grow old in. All in all, the quality of life is sub-standard. Of course, the one thing that I would miss the most is the theatre. (Big surprise, right?) But with full-price tickets to just about every Broadway show priced at over $100.00, and a decent meal at a good restaurant costing anywhere from $40.00-$100.00 per person, it's getting to the point where I can't even enjoy the things that I love the most about this city anymore. At least not any where near as often as I would like. Anyway... excuse my ranting. Like I said, you're going to do whatever you have a mind to do anyway. My only advice is... bring a lot of money!!!

Curtainup - honey so sorry you aren't happy here. But where are you finding 1 million dollar 1 bdrms? I've been looking to buy lately and I've found that you can get a nice 1 bdrm for around 4-500,000. Still ridiculous considering I could buy a large house for that in ST. Louis ..... but a far cry from a million. I guess it all depends what your priorities are. I mean like I said I could be living in a big house in St. Louis for what I pay here, but then I'd be bored as hell and theres no Broadway in STL! It is a tough place to live, thats for sure, but you should remember - if you can make it here, you can make it anywhere!

Ok... I should have said the average cost for an apartment (not necessarily a one-bedroom) in Manhattan is $1 million.
And I've made it here for 45 years. I'm ready to make it somewhere else.
